Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
At what age did DC begin sleeping on a cot? Was DC walking at the time?
Victoria is being transitioned into the next room where they take their naps on cots. DH and I need to sign paperwork giving the okay, but I'm not entirely sure about this. She is about to turn 13 months and still not walking unassisted. Is she too young for the cot transition? While we welcome any changes for her to advance, I'm not sure if this is one for her yet.
If SHE does not like the cot, they will allow her to go back to the crib without leaving the more advanced room.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
Our DD's are in an in home daycare, so I don't know all the rules of centers.
DD1 who is 2 1/2 was just transitioned to the cot. She does well.
DD2 who is almost 16 months is still in her pack and play.
I don't know... 13 months seems kind of young for the cot, but again, I don't know all of the rules of centers.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
I believe DS would have been on a cot at 18 months or so when he went into the toddler room. At 13 months he most definately was still in a crib at daycare.

Thomas is in the infant room at daycare and he is 16 months. He sleeps in a crib in the infant room. They move up to the toddler room at 18 months and that is when they transition to a cot.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
I think DD transitioned to the cot around 14 or 15 months. She was walking. They typically don't start until 17 months, however they moved DD up to the toddler room young.
eta: in my center they do not allow cribs in the toddler room. If she doesn't sleep on the cot they won't move her. HOWEVER I never in a million years thought Hannah would sleep on the cot and she does MUCH better on the cot then she did in the crib at daycare.
She loves her crib at home though...weird.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
I work at a daycare center and in what they call the tinfint room most of the children transition from drib to cot the babies in there are I think start at 14 months (but not 100% sure not my room) most children transition very well I have never seen a child go back to the crib after getting moved to a cot.
good luck

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
My daycare is trying to get DS into a cot and he's only 9 months!!!! He even slept on one today for the first time for 45 minutes.... I think 13 months is about right, but it all depends on the child....

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
Benjamin's daycare uses pack n plays for his age group and doesn't start using cots until 18 mos or older. If you are really uncomfortable with the idea, I would let them know you prefer her to be in a crib until at least she can walk unassisted.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
DD transitioned from crib to cot around 9 months. She was crawling.
I never had a problem with it. I was more curious as to how they get them to go to sleep without trying to crawl all over the place.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
My son will be transitioned to the next room soon and the younger ones stay in cribs and the older ones begin to transition onto cots before moving to the toddler room but I think it's not until 15 or 16 months old

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
DD actually started with the cot on the 2nd day of daycare, right after she turned 1.
It was a very low cot, they put pillows all around it and rubbed her back until she fell asleep.
I had a very hard time with it, but kept on top of things...she did great from the first day she slept in it

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
They're moved to the "twoddler" room between 10 and 14 mos and it is cots. DS is only 6 mos so I don't have the experience, just know what my center does.
If she needs to go back to the crib while staying in the advanced room, will she be the only one in a crib? I don't know that I'd be happy about that, being singled out. But if there are a couple in cribs and this is the option if she doesn't do well with the cot right away, IMO you have nothing to lose by moving her up.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
DD was moved from the infant room (nap in crib) to the toddler room at 18 months. However...they don't have cots..they have mats and sleep on the floor, so I was not worried about the transition.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
Thanks so much for the responses. I did speak with the daycare owner this morning and voiced our concerns about DD being too young for the cots. They do have 4 cribs in the room which she can nap in for now, but if a child is sick or not feeling well, she would have to try the cot.
I feel a little better about her making the transition after reading what you all wrote.

Re: Question for Daycare Mommies - sleeping related
At Lucas' new daycare they start them at 10 months...we came in at 14 months and there was no choice but to nap on a cot. I was sure it wouldn't work out but to my surprise it has. He takes 1.5 to 2 hour naps each day.
But as you know, Lucas pretty much runs around right now...I don't know how much that affects anything but even so he never gets out until they come by to get him. I had visions of him running around disturbing the other children but the teachers say that doesn't happen.
It's a whole different world at daycare and I continue to over the fact that he eats better, sleeps better and has a whole separate life at daycare.
I would suggest that you talk with the head teacher and/or director about how they will work with Victoria...how the transition works, what they do to help her, and what happens if it's not working out before you sign anything. You have to be comfortable.

Thanks Ang, The Director and I spoke this morning. They will sit with her and rub her back until she is able to fall asleep for as long as she needs this. The director will let Victoria sleep in the crib for as long as we want her to, except if a sick child needs it. If most other kids seem to transition okay, I may just speak to DH (and let him read these responses) we may allow the transition to the cot.
