Question for drivers, spinoff from a post on the parent's board
When someone does something you don't like, what is your reaction?
Let me give some examples: 1) Cut you off 2) Drive Slow 3) Tail Gate 4) Fail to let you merge 5) Honk their horn 6) Flash their lights
The reason I ask, is my sister was just hit by a woman who felt she was justified to hit my sister's car because she thought my sister spead up to not allow her in my sister's lane. Knowing the details of this accident, I know that isn't the case. Somehow in this woman's mind she felt that she was justified and it was my sister's own fault she got hit. My sister was driving w/ my 3 month old niece in the car at the time and the woman had little concern about the baby being injured or not. I just can't wrap my mind around someone wanting to teach someone a lesson by potentially causing bodily harm or even death to them.
ETA: this isn't meant to call anyone out on anything. We have all done silly things, not realizing the full extent of the consequences

Most of the time I yell at the person and I'll honk my horn. To deliberately hit someone is just silly - and her reasoning boggles me. That woman seriously needs help.
I hope your sister and niece are ok.

I have either one or 2 responses
My fault- I wave in the rear-view mirror and make a face and mouth sorry
NOT My Fault- middle finger out the sun roof
I would never hit another car- besides the obvious reasons- I wouldn't want to damage my car

Re: Question for drivers, spinoff from a post on the parent's board
Depending on the situation I would react differently...
If I got cut off and had a niece or nephew in the car with me, I'd probably just shake my head and mutter "asswhole" to myself.
By myself, I'd drive them off the road by not letting them in.
I know, I'm one of those horrible drivers of a BIG AZZ suv and no, I don't take too kindly to people trying to cut me off.
But I would NEVER do something like that if I had anyone in the car with me.
Additionally, I'd NEVER purposefully hit someone to "teach" them a lesson.
The woman who hit your sister is a complete NUT JOB.

Same here I lay on the horn. I never, ever would purposely hit someone out of spite no matter how ****** they make me. I need my car and would like to keep it nice. I cant believe some people and I guess she doesn't value life and her car. What did the police say? I hope everyone is ok ad the woman was cited.

Re: Question for drivers, spinoff from a post on the parent's board
I HATTTTTTTTE aggressive driving. I particuarly can't stand it when someone tries to 'race me' when I am just driving where I want to go.
I refuse to engage people on the road anymore though.
I take a deep breath and try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Instead of saying "What a CREEP!" I'll say 'Maybe he just got a text that his wife is in labor and he is frantic to get to her.' - or 'Maybe he won the lottery and is not acting himself' - or 'Poor woman probably had a really busy morning and if she doesn't get to work ASAP her team won't be able to get into the office so she has to hurry'. Then I move to the side or let them in or whatever - and continue driving with them safely away from me.
ETA: The woman who hit your sister obviously should not have a driver's license and I really hope her insurance company drops her when they hear THAT little explanation of hers.

Depends. If someone drives like a maniac next to me and cut me off or do anything that could endanger me... I am really pi$$ed. Especially if DS is with me in the car.
I curse a lot!!!!!!!
My fault: I apologize. I never cut people off or do anything like that intentionally.

Re: Question for drivers, spinoff from a post on the parent's board
Let me give some examples: 1) Cut you off Ignore them - DH gets all upset, I chuck it up to them being azzholes.
2) Drive Slow Go around them somewhow
3) Tail Gate Get out of their lane...move to the right so they can pass
4) Fail to let you merge Slow down and get on behind them - a little aggravated
5) Honk their horn Ignore or start moving if it's a light
6) Flash their lights Look for a cop or get out of their way
BTW, what that woman did is irresponsible and stupid....no matter what you don't hit someone because of their behaviour driving. It'll bite her in the azz in the long run, though because her insurance will have to cover the damage to your sisters car.
We all make mistakes while driving...acknowledge them and move on...and it does no good to get upset about someone else's bad driving.

ITA. I have to say, if someone intentionally hit my car, I would press criminal charges. Road rage is something I take VERY seriously. It's a huge danger on our roads. I witnessed a scary incident walking home from work the other day and had to call 911 when a passenger in a car got out and started chasing another driver.
People who cannot check their anger when driving are a danger to everyone. I hope the woman who intentionally hit your sister pays the consequences for her dangerous, irresponsible actions.

This is pretty much my reaction to. I figure there is no point in getting aggravated with other people over driving, to me it's just a waste of energy. If someone is in that much of a hurry, I'll let them get around me. If I need to be going more quickly, I'll look for a way around them. No big deal.

Re: Question for drivers, spinoff from a post on the parent's board
If they are at fault I usually honk & flip them off. Last time I did that, the guy that cut me off then proceeded to threaten me
Some pathetic guy I worked with was cut off by someone, his response catch up and cut them off. He did that so bad that the other driver was run off the road and hit something. This guy was CRAZY, so glad he doens't work with me anymore

Re: Question for drivers, spinoff from a post on the parent's board
I used to honk my horn or fliash my lights but honestly now I do nothing. People are nuts and I would rather deal with my anger internally than start something with a psycho killer. It just isn't worth it.

Wow, just wow. That driver who hit your sister was SO WRONG. I hope your sister and niece are ok.
I'm not a really agressive driver, so I don't react violently (at least I like to think that I don't).
Most of my reactions are me yelling in my car for a few seconds. Then I get over it.
