Question for EBF moms and gas issues
Our son has been passing gas after some of his feedings. This happens about 2/3 hours after he eats. It does not matter whether I EBF or use a bottle. Although it isn't as bad when he has a bottle. Sometimes he does it in his sleep or it will wake him up. He cries and passes gas. Sometimes he even poops at the same time. We've burped him after each feeding and he does burp so I'm not sure where the farting is coming from. Is there anything we can do to help him pass the gas sooner or make it less painful for him? I feel so bad for him when he wakes up crying and doesn't feel relief until he passes gas.

Re: Question for EBF moms and gas issues
Evaluate your diet and see if you are eatign anything that is gas inducing. If there is-eliminate it.
Also, the fast that it seems better when you giving him BM from the bottle makes me wonder if he latches on correctly. Make sure that your whole nipple AND areola are in his mouth and that there are no smucking/airsucking noises when he eats. Is he is not positioned on the breast correctly he might be enhaling a lot of air at each feedign which gives him gas.

Re: Question for EBF moms and gas issues
Today he is doing much better. He only had the passing gas issue this morning. He was still fussy when he would wake up but it wasn't as bad as the passed few days.
So far I have eliminated dairy. I also was on a pistachio kick the past week and stopped eating them all together on Friday. I'm not sure what else I could eliminate from my diet that may cause gas for the little guy. But it looks like one of the two may have been a cause.
I did notice that he wasn't latching on correctly on the right side. Sometimes he would cry trying to latch on and it was uncomfortable for me once he started eating. I got a shield last night and that has helped with the latching.
