Question for moms of toddlers..

What do you do with your children when they first wake up?

I am a SAHM so I dont have to rush to get ready for work. I usually change her diaper, clean her face and hands and for the longest time was putting her in her highchair to watch her morning shows. I would give her milk and cheerios first, and then about 15 minutes later, give her breakfast. This doesnt seem to be working anymore. She wants to play instead of going straight into the highchair but I am afraid I will never get her to eat breakfast (bad, bad eater) if I let her play first. She is 22 months old.

What do you guys do??

After I change her diaper I give her a sippy cup of milk, she plays and watches some TV. I usually give her breakfast about half an hour later.

She gets up, change her and give her milk. She will watch TV or look at books for a little while. About a half hour later I give her breakfast in her chair then we get ready for the day.

That is what I do when I am off or on the weekend. My MIL does the same with DS when she watches him.

Re: Question for moms of toddlers..

DS gets up around 6 a.m. - 6:30 a.m. I get him dressed, give him bottle of milk in highchair and we go to daycare. He has breakfast there about 8 a.m.

DS is 14 months. The morning bottle is the only bottle he has now. I will be totaling weaning to cup soon, but I hesitate to because this is the only way he gets any milk. He drinks water and juice from sippy really well, but only drinks some sips of milk from a cup.

Re: Question for moms of toddlers..

DD is also 22 months old. She gets a diaper change, gets dressed, hair fixed and then it's time to go let the dog inside (I let him out before I go to her room). We give the dog a milkbone and then we go upstairs so mommy can get ready for the day. While I'm getting ready (making bed, shower, hair makeup, etc), she is playing with toys that are in my room, watching TV, taking stuff out of the drawers, etc. When mommy is done...it's cleanup time and then it's time for breakfast. Re: Question for moms of toddlers..

I am a SAHM so we have a nice leisurely morning routine (DS is 27 months). He gets up, I pour him a cup of milk, and we snuggle on the sofa together and watch a little Noggin. Honestly this is one of my favorite parts of the day, just me and my cuddlebug curled up together. Then I flip on the news for myself, get DS dressed, he plays for a little while while I eat my breakfast and unload the dishwasher (I get dressed super early before he wakes up). Then he eats his breakfast a little later, and we're usually out the door to go somewhere.

Ditto. DS (23 mos) wakes early, usually around 6:15 so we change his diaper, he sits in his chair in the living room, has his milk and watches Curious George (his new obsession) then he plays for a while and doesn't want brakfast until about 7:30 - 8.

Re: Question for moms of toddlers..

Abby is a great eater, so it's a little different for us.

Wake up around 7, change diaper, come into bed with Mommy & Daddy, watch a tv show while we get a few more minutes of sleep, breakfast around 7:30 or 8 am. She devours it. then we clean up, get dressed. into the exersaucer (she's way above the weight limit but she'll still sit in it) while mommy gets ready (she watches another show), then it's off to a playground for the morning.

have you tried offering different breakfast foods?

Pretty much same here, except DD gets milk first. As soon as she sees me, she asks for milkies. She can't even think of functioning without it.

Re: Question for moms of toddlers..

On the weekends we snuggle/watch cartoons/play before he eats. Probably 1-1.5 hrs after waking he actually eats.

Re: Question for moms of toddlers..

DD is a piggy and doesn't want to do anything else but eat after her diaper change. She's also like my mom and has to watch her shows in a certain order before she goes off to play.

Re: Question for moms of toddlers..

DD wakes up, diaper change, and cup of OJ. I used to put her right in her booster seat but now that she is getting picky I wait a little while and then get her breakfast ready, probably about 20 minutes later.

Re: Question for moms of toddlers..

DD is 29 months and DS is 12 months....they wake up and we play first. Especially since DD takes awhile to actually "wake up" despite sleeping till 9:30am.

I also turn on the tv for her and she kind of just hangs out till her spunk kicks in.
