Question for moms with infants...

Do you use both a bouncy seat and a swing. We dont have a huge house and just wondering if it is necessary to register for both. What swing did you find best to "grow" with your child. Some for the bouncy seats ive seen look like they are only good for about 3 months if that...

thanks!Chat Icon

Re: Question for moms with infants...

Nothing can be smaller than my place. We have no walking room, but we needed the bouncy and the swing.

Now, I am done with the swing, but we have a bouncy, pack n play, exersaucer, AND jumperoo...

I cant walk anywhere without stubbing a toe!!!

WE had both. My DD is 8 months now and we don't use the bouncer, but did for a long time. We still use the swing when she is too tired to fall asleep herself so we put her in the swing for her nap. I LOVE THIS ONE!!!

Good Luck!! There is a lot to choose from!!

Re: Question for moms with infants...

My kids were more "bouncy seat kids". My BF swears kids tend to be either swing kids or bouncy seat kids.

I received a travel swing as a hand me down. My kids hated it but I would suggest it because it's a real space saver and well, you can take it with you to grandma's house if that's all that will calm them. We got two hand me down swings and my kids HATED swings... I think they are the only kids on LIF who did...lol.

Infant to toddler rockers last a lot longer than bouncy seats. My kids outgrew their bouncies quickly and well, with twins you need them... I can't hold both. A twin mommy gave me both of her infant to toddler rockers and they have been a godsend. I'd register for the rocker... had I known.

You can get the jumperoo later. I bought one at a consignment store for $20. Same one in BRU is $70. We only have one jumperoo and one exersaucer and the kids rotate through them.

When you retire one thing, you take out another.

My son is a "Bouncy" addict. He only started using his swing in the past month (he's 4.5 months old). We have the rainforest take along swing by fisher price. It's small and takes up little room!! The only thing is he is growing out of it fast!!

ITA! My dd was a bouncy seat kid, my ds was all about the swing. They both liked the exersaucer, we never had a jumparoo.

And I agree with Theresa about the infant to toddler rocker. My 2.5 year old still sits in hers every day.

I have a bouncy, an infant to toddler rocker, a full size swing and a travel swingChat Icon Now. I didn't BUY all of them (I only bought the travel swing, actually) but have used all of them.

We used the bouncy ALL the time when DS was a newborn and now it is in his room, so when I am doing stuff on that end of the house he sits in it and still likes it.

When he was tiny and fussy, we tried the travel swing, he hated it, so I brought it to my mom's, we use it there now that he is older and likes it better.

The full size swing was a hand me down and a friggen godsend. DS likes the side to side rocking (which is why he didn't like that travel swing, it only goes back and forth), he is in it right now actually bc he is sleepy.

And finally, the newborn to toddler rocker, I didn't register for this, but got it as a gift at my shower and it is great! We didn't use it much until DS was about 3 months old, but it is fan favorite here now.

Yeah, it is a lot of stuff, but since you don't know what your baby will like it helps to register for it all and go from there. We moved when DS was 5 weeks old, so we kept everything but hte bouncy in boxes til we wanted to or thought we needed it.

I have both. My swing is samll and low to the ground. The big bulky ones are nice but they do jsut as good of a job as the little ones do.

Every kid is different. My first DD loved her swing and the darn thing couldn't go high enough or fast enough for her. She loved it.
This baby HATES the swing. She'd rather be in a bouncer or a bumbo chair chilling out. So I am happy I didn't register for a big expensive swing. it would have been a waste.

I KNOW a lot people say this, but in our house it just wasn't true. DS HATED the back and forth rocking, which the little ones do, but LOVES side to side.

Re: Question for moms with infants...

We have both and can't live without them. But, as an alternative, might I suggest something like the fisher price aquarium travel swing. They use this at daycare because the 0-6 month room is small. It's sort of a swing and bouncer and takes up less space. He loves it!

We are somewhat tight on space and have this swing. DS is 5 1/2 mths old and LOVES it. He originally hates his big swing, so I put it in the basement. We were visiting my sister in Maryland and her neighbor lent me her swing and DS loved it. He goes in it almost every day.

In the beginning he loved his bouncy seat....we got a relatively small one. He still goes in it from time to time but not as much as the swing.

Honestly, My daughter loved her swing until she began to roll over (about 3 months). After that, she wanted nothing to do with her swing...we are putting it away this weekend Chat Icon

Re: Question for moms with infants...

When my girls were little Reese loved the swing and could swing for hours in it and fall asleep..Sydney hated the swing..Unfortunatly i think it's a trial and error kind of thing..I guess i am no help. Try and buy a used swing or see if one of your friends have one so you don't have to buy both.

Re: Question for moms with infants...

I used my bouncy til dd was at least 5 months old, get one that sits up more, not one of those cradle ones and you will get more use out of it.

BOth my girls are bouncy seat lovers. My oldest HATED the swing, my youngest tolerates it, but prefers the seat.

I would wait on the swing, you could always get a travel swing later on, and def get a bouncy seat.

Re: Question for moms with infants...

My DD loves both - and we need them - she has reflux and her ped suggested putting her in one after eating for at least 30 mins - in the mornings she sits in her swing while DH gets ready for work - b/c she was throwing up from the reflux 2 hours after eating.

She tends to gravitate towards the swing for a few days, then the bouncer seat - then back to the swing depending on her mood. I would try to get both - my swing plugs in and doesn't need batteries - and it can fold up if you want to put it away - but it does take up room. I have the FP rainforest one.

BTW my swing and bouncer go up to 25 lbs - DD was 9lbs - 4ozs at birth and is 12 1/2 lbs now (she just turned 12 weeks) so she should still get a lot of use out of both.

We had the same issue. We live in a 750sq ft apartment. We got the Graco 3 in 1 swing. It is a swing and the seat comes out and is a bouncy seat.

Re: Question for moms with infants...

I used the bouncy up until this past mo, ds is now 6 mos but I also had the swing out until 2mos when I got the jump a roo, he enjoyed that much more. I liked having both out and I also have a small house but I used the bouncy to feed ds so I really needed to have both out.
