question for those hosting thanksgiving.
What do you make before hand - and what do you make the day of?
So far I have to make turkey and mashed potatoes tomorrow - I think I did everything else today...but I am wondering if I can make the mashed potatoes tonight too (at least boil them?) or am I better off just doing it tomorrow while the turkey is roasting?

Re: question for those hosting thanksgiving.
I made my cranberry glaze for the turkey today. Sometimes I will cut the potatoes and put them in the fridge in the water and pot that I am going to cook them in. You can make the potatoes ahead of time. Mash them up and then cover with a layer of plastic wrap rubbed with butter (saw that on the food network) to keep from drying out.

Im not hosting, but my mom has EVERYTHING done, (setup and prepared) all she needs to cook is the turkey. And make the stuffing, she makes the BEST homemade stuffing. But sweet pot, veggies are ready to go in the oven.

Re: question for those hosting thanksgiving.
I did all my baking today. Right now, I am steaming vegetables for casseroles and when that is done I'll be working on appetizers. I like to get as much done as possible the day before. As for the mashed potatoes, they'll be done tomorrow. I don't like them reheated. Oh, and I have the dining room all ready to go. No wonder my back is killing me.

Re: question for those hosting thanksgiving.
I def boil the potatoes the night before and then mash them the morning of. I also make the cranberries early the morning of, and the applesauce at the same time. I brine the turkey the night before, and prep the stuffing the night before and refrigerate it. I ready the veggies (cut the ends of the string beans...crown the broccoli, etc) also. I do all of the baking bits the night before too. I am actually waiting for a pie to set as I type
And despite all of this, I always manage to have ONE cold dish no matter how hard I try to keep it all warm

Re: question for those hosting thanksgiving.
I prefer to do it all that day - I don't like heated up food personally.
I did make the stuffing - just have to bake it tomorrow.
I cut up the cheese for the cheese platter.
I baked cookies.
I set my table.
I'll wash the turkey tonight but otherwise the rest is all for tomorrow.

Re: question for those hosting thanksgiving.
I try to get everything done as much as possible the night before. I've already made the stuffing, all I have to do is cook it tomorrow. I've made cranberry sauce, and have a pumpkin pie in the oven now. DH is making fruit salad now. I'll prep the turkey tonight before I go to bed so it's ready to go in the morning. The potatos I'll do an hour or so before the turkey is done. I'll also set the table tonight.

I make everything that day.
Same for me. The only thing I did ahead of time is make the apple pie and dry out the bread for the stuffing.

Re: question for those hosting thanksgiving.
working on it now. I made a noodle pudding and now I'm working on the sweet potato pie. I may start the stuffing tonight.
I will cut up cheese and make the antipasto plate. I plugged in my fridge in the garage for everything.
Turkey early tomorrow, then the prime rib, mashed, and green bean cassarole tomorrow.
Enough food for 20 people and I'm having only 7 for dinner and two for dessert.
But oh, the leftovers!

Re: question for those hosting thanksgiving.
I have my apps ready to go.
Made Cheesecake, Pecan Pie
Brining turkey
Fruit salad
tables are ready
made whipped cream
soup is simmering
I'd say almost everything can be done ahead, but potatoes I would do the day of.

Re: question for those hosting thanksgiving.
He said he would. He even said he would bathe!
I'm nervous, I've made quite the spread but he knows and most of all remembers that he is coming over tomorrow. Yay for the small miracles.
He walked with his leg today for the first time since he's home. PT was impressed.
Sorry to hijack...
carry on
