Question for those that let their dogs in the yard....
How often do you go out there to clean up the poop?

Re: Question for those that let their dogs in the yard....
in the winter? never i let it freeze out there and get washed away by the rain / snow...we have a big yard and she always goes in the back to do her business. But then there's the first nice day of spring when we clean up the yard and I have bagfuls - but at least they are "frozen" . Then during the summer I do it at least 1x a week if not more..bc of the smell.

Re: Question for those that let their dogs in the yard....
We have a poop eater so we go with him when we know he's going to poop. He's on a schedule so we usually have a 6am in the backyard and then on his long walk at 12ish.
It's only twice a day so it's manageable.

Same here. Actually, we have a huge yard and never have a smell issue. In spring/summer DH usually just mows over it!
Thinking that will change when the baby comes and can run around the yard

A dog that eats poop, which mine has been known to do on occassion. I have her on a pretty good schedule too, thankfully, but I supervise her in the yard and clean up immediately. With my old dog, this was a non-issue, but we cleaned the yard at least every other day, more often in nice weather.

Re: Question for those that let their dogs in the yard....
Labs really do have a strong instinct to pick up things off the ground, and the smellier the better! One of the first things we taught him was "leave it". But it only works if we're there to tell him!
Besides, I don't want surprises in our yard, or to have him step in it and track it in the house.
Next is creating a spot for him and training him to only poop/pee in that place!

We pick her poop up every time she goes with a paper napkin, and flush it.
Yes, she's spoiled!

Scout still eats it too if Ileave it sitting around. So I try to get out there after each poop, but I definitely clean up at least once a day.

Re: Question for those that let their dogs in the yard....
We clean up a few times a week - they seem to prefer to hold it all day until we go for a walk, so there's not usually that much in the yard to clean.

Re: Question for those that let their dogs in the yard....
A few times a week. I hate the thought of it being tracked into the house. We have a Doggie Dooley so it's pretty easy.

Re: Question for those that let their dogs in the yard....
We take her out into the yard on a leash when she has to go so that we know where it is and can pick it up right away. It only takes a few seconds to scoop it up, and it's much better now that we don't have to worry about her stepping in it, or us stepping in it either.
