Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
I know every pregnancy is different, especially if I find out if I am having multiple babies. (Yes, twins run in my family )
But I wanted to know how long you were able to continue working before you gave birth. I have a non-physical, boring job where I am mainly at a desk in front of computers and televisions. So, manual labor isn't the problem.
If I find out that no woman has gone past 35 weeks at work, then I know it's not possible to work during my 9th month. I have no maternity leave at my job so I am trying to do all I can to have money before leaving.
TIA!!!!!!!!

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
I worked until the day I was sent to the hospital to be induced at 37 weeks 2 or 3 days. I was planning on working until 39 weeks otherwise.
Other than the commute on the LIRR in August and the subway, it wasn't so bad.

I'm due in August. Not so funny. But my commute isn't bad.

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
All depends on the job and your pregnancy. If you have mutiples you will be out of work much earlier than a single pregnancy most likely. I never thought I would be told at 10 weeks that I could no longer commute to NYC. I had a compressed nerve in my leg and had to work from home full-time at that point. So you just never know.

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
Every pregnancy is different so this is just my perspective..
I worked an intense job physically, emotionally, and the hours were long (1 week I worked 125 hours but I was only 12 weeks but usually it was 60-80 6 days minimum). There was a point where things had to get turned down a notch from weeks 29-35. But I worked until I was supposed to be induced.
It wasn't easy, but I would do it again if given the choice. I'd rather be at work than home staring at the clock. I was miserable on the one day I was put on bedrest.
good luck! i also have twins in my fam - i'm the first with only 1 baby!

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
I worked until I was in my 39th week. I took the last week off to give myself some rest before the baby came.

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
My last day was at 38 weeks and 1 day and I delivered on my 39th week. I also worked at a desk job but could be very stressful at times. When my mom went into labor with me it was her last day of work ( I was 2 weeks early).

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
I worked until the day DS was born, actually until an hour before he was born. I left work at 2:15, drove 5 minutes to my MD and was 9cm, baby was delivered at 3:11.
It most certainly can be done (working in your 9th month)

not every multiple mom goes out early, my coworker who had twins, worked until the day before she had her c-section.

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
I lost my mucus plug at 4pm in the bathroom at work and was a mommy the next afternoon at 5pm. So I literally worked till the very last second.
i was planning on commuting till 38 weeks and work from home the last two weeks. However, my son made his appearance thee and a half weeks early.

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
I decided to stop working at 36 weeks. I was feeling fine just having trouble sleeping and getting up early for work.
I was in a great position though since I had enough sick time to take me through my maternity leave.

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
I worked until a week before my induction, since I'm a teacher it worked out to be the day before Thanksgiving( Nov.22nd) break, and I was induced the Wednesday after Thanksgiving(Nov. 29th).

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
I worked up until 2 days PAST my due date with my daughter, and that was a job where I was on my feet all day. I am planning on working until my water breaks or they force me to have another c/s with this one!

I worked until the day before I went into labor. 39 weeks and 6 days and that was just because it was my normal day off.

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
My dad's secretary has a very low-energy job - she was due Dec. 31, and not only worked until then, but continued to work because she went a week and a half past her due date - she was totally able to do it...
I have a pretty active job, and am planning on seeing it through til the end - I also know many teachers who worked until they were ready to give birth....

Re: Question for working mothers who have already given birth....
With my first, I planned on working up until 1 week before [so I would have a few days to myself]. My job was a little physically demanding and my hours were horrible...so I ended up barely making it to 2 weeks before my due date. [I was barely working 30 hours in the end when I used to work 45+] Meanwhile, a coworker also pregnant worked up until she literally called our boss and said "I might be in labor, but if you need me to, I'll come in." He told her NO, go to the hospital.
It seriously depends on the pregnancy...I plan more confidently this time on working up until a 10 days before my due date [though depending on what the dr. tells me, that may change]. I had my first child 8 days early...so it's a good thing I took the 2 weeks off or I wouldn't have had time to buy a carseat!
