Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
No. I can't STAND that.
My DH is too nice, and they keep coming back. So I told the lady that we're pagans and that we're quite happy with our "religious organization".
She hasn't come back

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
I've had them laugh and tell me they know I'm not serious when I tell them we are not religious at all. They go away right away at least.
I think they target people who are really poor, vulnerable/disabled in some way or not originally from this country.
I hope that doesn't offend anyone!

We get them all the time. I just ignore them but they are persistent and annoying. I used to have a sign I put on my door that said, do not solicit, I have my own religion, thanks.

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
Yes....I converted.

That has to be one of my biggest pet peeves. I am in my private home and random strangers are knocking on my door to tell me their beliefs and that I should also follow. Something is seriously wrong with that. I don't care what they believe in but I have my own brain and don't need someone telling me what to think. I always ignore them or tell them to get off my property.

this is how I feel. I hate that I even have to answer my door and say "I'm not intereted." It bothers me that it is okay for random people to annoy you in your home to tell you about their religious beliefs. I dont even think people should be allowed to do this to sell candy or to discuss political views. It makes me uncomfortable, especially when I am home alone with DS.

I never answer the door when I am alone w/DS unless its someone I know and expect or a delivery I am expecting. I guess I am rude like that
IMO solicitors don't even deserve your time, sorry if that sounds rude.

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
Well, it's part of their religion, from what I know, to go out and spread information, so I'm never rude to them. But no, I don't know anyone who has ever converted because of a door-to-door religion salesman

I let my dog out to jump all over them and then tell them that my religion doesn't need door to door salesmen

nope, i am actually very polite either i don't answer the door or i listen to them and clearly state before they get into it i have religion just not anything that can be clearly defined and there is no chance that i would be converting anytime soon.
my dh slams the door in their face and screams at them

Nope. I tell them I smoke pot, drink and had premarital sex. There is no "saving" me.

I just don't answer the door. Same for those that are trying to get support for a politician. I can't stand solicitors! My hub is a sucker though.

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
From what I understand, some of the religions that go door to door have a mission to find as many followers as possible for entrance into heaven, their own personal salvation, what have you. I respect that. HOWEVER, as a member of a faith who clearly displays that faith on the doorpost of my home, I find it DISrespectful to ring my bell and disrupt my household at a futile attempt at conversion. I graciously say "no thank you" because I don't wish to be rude, but inside, I boil a little bit. I've never known a mezzuzah displaying person to convert from these efforts.

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
Im usually polite to begin with - i tell them thank you but i'm not interested. If they don't go away or keep persisting on trying to get me to listen to them, then i'll just firmly say not interested and close the door on them.
I would only be rude if they were rude first.. then forget it.. i'll be the first to kick them off my door step!

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
I live in CO with a HUGE Mormon population and I am actually surprised that since living here I haven't had my doorbell rang even once by them. They I believe are the most common door to door preachers as it is part of their mission.

I am not sure I understand your comment. Like they only knock at certain people's houses?
To OP: I have had an older couple come talk to me. I could not "escape", I was weeding my front beds. But they were really nice and not pushy. I told them DH was jewish and left it at that. They asked if they could leave a pamphlet and I said yes to leave it by the door as I was still working and with dirty gloves. I told them to have a good day, smiled at them and they did the same.
I do not answer my door. But I don't for anyone who rings my door. Religion, roofing companies going by or Cablevision trying to get us back.

I lived in NC for many years. My EXILs who are baptists told me that "preaching" was part of being a good "Christian" and was part of the Bible. So preaching is sometimes concidered by some religions to be a "good thing". Most of those people do believe that they need to convert people so they can be "saved".

I'm not sure who they target here, but what you described are called missionaries who go to other countries to convert people!

Although I hate when they come on the weekend. We will usually leave our front door open for "fresh air" and such and then there is no avoiding them. I hate that!

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
No. I have to say though, the ones I've come across out here in California are pretty easygoing. I don't fault them for following their religion by going door to door, as long as they accept a polite "no thank you" from me.

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
It drives me nuts that they do this. I let my dog jump all over them or tell them that I don't believe in God or that this is a home owners associations development you must have a permit to go door to door.

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
My Dad was never converted, but he used to have great conversations/debates with a lot of those folks. Because I am my father's daughter i will invite them in for a drink and chat if I have time... but I haven't ever been given a reason that has compelled me to convert.
Rob used to play really loud, obnoxious metal music if he was home while I was entertaining these folks.

Re: Question: RE: religious organizations knocking on your door..
My mom always made us stay away from the windows and pretend we werent home. So, following her example, I just don't answer the door.
