Questions about Starting Cereal
DS has been getting oatmeal cereal in his bottle for over two months now due to his reflux. Ped wants him to start getting fed it in two weeks when he's five months old. He explained 1 tbs mixed with formula, etc - to get up to 3 tbs in a month's time and then call him regarding moving on to fruits and veggies.
Questions: How long did you take to build up the quantity - a week at each? Once you saw DC could take it?
Also, he said 2x a day - am/pm - I know it does not replace bottle but when did you give - first thing in am before 1st bottle? Last thing before last bottle at night? As is, DS doesn't like to eat in am because of his reflux but is right before bottle best time to give so baby has best chance of actually taking it and not being full from bottle? Or did you stagger times and give at completely different times than bottle?
Thanks so much!

Re: Questions about Starting Cereal
We started with 1 tbsp in the am, after her first nursing session. We upped the amounts probably weekly, depending on how quickly she was eating/wanting the oatmeal.
When we added the second "meal" we did it between the afternoon and night nursing sessions.

Re: Questions about Starting Cereal
Thank you!
So, even after you nursed, she still wanted it? My concern is that he won't want in the am, since he typically doesn't eat much, so I don't know what's more important. I guess I can always call ped in two weeks and see what he thinks...

Re: Questions about Starting Cereal
I would usually wait a little bit before I gave her the oatmeal (maybe like an hour) after I nursed her in the morning.
I remember wondering how I was going to fit it in also, but after a while we all got the hang of it!
