Questions for ladies with PCOS
When you were diagnosed, did it change your feelings about TTC if you weren't already trying? Did you decide to start sooner than you originally planned out of fear that it may take longer than under normal circumstances?
TIA!!!

Re: Questions for ladies with PCOS
I was taking Met when I got pregnant with DD. Honestly my OBGYN all told me that I wouldn't get pregnant without help and gave me 3 months and then he would send me to an RE - told me best chance was to BD 2 times a day for the whole month since I wasn't sure if or when I was o'ing. Well I charted, did OPKs, and BD as much as possible, and low an behold we were very lucky that we got pregnant the first month - I don't think that is normal. I'm very worried about #2 and I want to start later this summer and worry that I will have a lot of trouble this time as I'm not on met now (BFing part time still) and my AF is all over the place.

Re: Questions for ladies with PCOS
I have PCOS and was told that I wasn't going to get PG. So I went off the pill in Nov hoping to be able to go to a RE in May. Well...Im now 7 months pregnant. Ya never know! I did start trying earlier than we wanted though - but it happened much sooner than expected!

Re: Questions for ladies with PCOS
When I was diagnosed, I was crushed. I thought it was basically like a life sentence that I would never get pregnant.
Because we knew what we were up against, we decided to get serious earlier than normal and we were to the RE sooner than we were planning to.
I went on the Metformin, then Clomid, and we were pregnant our first month on Clomid. I was pleasantly surprised, I didn't think it would happen for us so soon!

Re: Questions for ladies with PCOS
We found out that I have PCOS while we were TTC. I went for a annual and my gyn did some testing.
I was crushed at first but then some what relieved that I knew what I was up against. I am on Metformin and just finished my 1st round of Clomid. Hoping and praying that it will be all I need.

Re: Questions for ladies with PCOS
Thanks so much for all of your responses!!! When my Dr. told me, she suggested going on meds right away but I told her that we weren't ready to TTC yet and if I put it in my head that we NEEDED to start now, I would end up getting pregnant way before we were ready and I didn't want that. She told me that if I try on my own for a year, and it still doesn't happen, then we know where to go from there. I was happy with that but I just keep wondering if that is the best thing to do. Dh is so "whatever" about the whole thing and it makes me sooo uncomfortable because what if it isn't that easy for us? I know everyone is different but I do feel better reading all of your experiences. Thanks so much!

I got pregnant my first month of using OPKs. I miscarried at 8 weeks, but it happened. Unfortunately I haven't conceived since, but started seeing an RE in April, and just got AF for the first time in 6 months. I'm hoping it won't be long now!
Hoping that it happens for you soon

Re: Questions for ladies with PCOS
I didn't know I had PCOS until I wanted to have a baby, although I always was afraid I would have trouble conceiving because I had very irregular periods as a teenager before going on BCP at 19, which was the "solution" for my irregularity. I really wish that my ob/gyn had diagnosed me then, because I wouldn't have wasted the time I did when I started TTC. If your plan is not to TTC now, but sometime in the near future, I would consider starting some meds like metformin, because it may help you to start to ovulate regularly, and then when you are ready to start trying you won't waste any time.

This is exactly why I even went to see the Dr. I've been off of BCP for over a year and my cycles are way out whack. AF would come later and later each month. I knew there was something up. I had blood work and a pelvic sono done and thats how I found out I had PCOS. This is what I was on the fence about. Should I start meds now or not?? The Dr. suggested trying on my own first...I honestly don't know what I want to do. DH is just like "ok, so it takes a year. You won't have any problems" I just want to shake him b/c its not 100% that it will only take a year otherwise I'd be A-OK with that. I guess I have to think about this some more. Thanks so much

Well, I can only share with you my own experiences, you have to decide what is right for you. When your dr. did blood tests, did you have your fasting insulin/glucose tested? If you are insulin resistant, then metformin is a good place to start. Its not a fertility drug, its actually a diabetes med that will get your insulin (and perhaps testosterone if you tested high for that) to more normal levels, which in turn will help you to ovulate regularly, which in turn will help you to concieve. When I was first diagnosed, my ob/gyn said something like this: Most women will have 12 chances a year to conceive. Since you don't ovulate once a month, you will have less chances. So the bottom line is its not impossible to conceive with PCOS, but it is more difficult. It is harder to keep track of things like basal body temperature and CM because of our hormones being out of whack.
Good luck, and if you have any questions, feel free to FM me!

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!! Honestly, I don't know what she tested for with my blood The only other thing she said was that my thyroid is normal.
