Questions for those who dropped alot of weight...
When did the yoyo-ing stop and something finally click?
What gave you the willpower to stick to your new healthier habits?
When did exercise become something you wanted to do, instead of something you dreaded and avoided?
How fast did you see results?
What was a typical day of eating before? What is it now?
I'm trying to figure out how to make this work. I have ZERO willpower and no energy to exercise (probably from my crapppy diet and LACK of exercise)
I need help. I see pictures and I'm disgusted and yet, I can't seem to say no to the cravings.

Re: Questions for those who dropped alot of weight...
well i always tended to yo yo (i am finding myself on the upswing, trying to get back down now) but i wanted to share what helps me to exercise... i have found i have to force exercise into my schedule and make it a routine just like any other thing, since i am too tired when i get home from work i will wake up an hour early to work out and then at least i feel its out the way for the day.. diet is where my problem is and its hard staying in check but i guess you will feel more motivated once you start seeing some weight come off... good luck!

Re: Questions for those who dropped alot of weight...
After graduating college, I weighed myself and realized I was 180lbs. I had NEVER in my entire life been that big. I could no longer fit into Junior's clothes and cried in the dressing room when a size 13 was too small.
I was just so motivated to stop feeling gross. I had let myself go and hated it.
A few things helped me-
1. I joined Weight Watchers. The meetings offered an excellent support system. I also REALLY wanted to lose weight and knowing I was getting weighed in on Sunday made me stick to my points!
2. I got into excercising. I made it part of my daily routine and just fell in love with the gym.
3. I tried new foods, mixed up my daily diet, and found substitutes for some favorites.
4. DH and I did it together. He ended up losing 50lbs (which he later gained...good for him though he's back on it again!)
One of the biggest differences between how I ate before and how I eat now is fast food and going out to eat. I 100% cut out fsat food- havent eaten it in months. Also, DH and I used to go out 2-3 times a week at least. We'd share an app, get an entree each, and dessert. That stopped. Now we only go out once a week (which also helps in the saving money department).
As I watched the weight come off, and people complimented me, I felt more and more motivated.
As of now, I'm down a total of 60lbs. Even now, my weight naturally fluctuates anywhere from 117-123lbs based on where I am in life, training (for races), etc. As long as I keep in that range, I'm pretty happy!

Re: Questions for those who dropped alot of weight...
Im answering based on DH. . . b/c I haven't mastered this yet. . . I am just plain lazy and need someone externally to motivate me. . . However, DH once lost over 100 lbs and he did it by working hard M-Sat and then having a HUGE cheat day on Sunday and would eat anything he wanted. Not saying thats perfect...but...it did work to him. He would eat whatever he was cravying at the time!

Re: Questions for those who dropped alot of weight...
Up until I was 27, I yo-yo'd and nothing stuck.
I will tell you this - finding a workout you LOVE helps. If you don't find something you love, working out will always feel like a drudgery that you must do, not something you can't wait to go do!
I fell in love with cardio kickboxing, and then it all stuck. I wanted to eat well so I can have energy for my class. Then when the weight started dropping and I got compliments, it got me over the next hurdle.
Buying new workout clothes, sneakers, even shower scrubs and nice smelling lotions for after after my workouts all were little treats that made me feel good about what I was doing....
After a while, I started becoming obsessed with other types of workouts. Spin became popular at that time and I became hooked on that. It all started to fall into place naturally for me. Then I decided to become a certified fitness instructor....
It happened again recently when I found Zumba. I love group fitness. Zumba made me fall in love with fitness again, and it turned me back to my other loves - running and spin. I want to go back to kickboxing again although it's not as hot anymore... I came full circle because I was so bitten with the fitness bug, I am getting REcertified in fitness (it lapsed when I was fat and pregnant and thought I would never teach again anyway...)
It happens slowly. The slower it happens, I find the more it turns into a natural part of your life....

Re: Questions for those who dropped alot of weight...
I had a pretty large wait loss some years ago, but i always plateaued before losing the last few pounds. I finally broke through it but overall, there are a few things that help.
1-Consistency. If I had a bad day, or go over my values, I don't let it turn into a bad weekend or a bad week, I jump right back into my program.
2-I write down EVERYTHING. I think twice if I have to enter something, if I cheat and don't write something it sometimes turns into a binge because it seems like free calories.
3-I learned that if a program doesn't work, try a different one. It doesn't mean that no program will work.
4-Find something you like as far as exercise is concerned, and you're more likely to stick with it.

Thank you! I started in Sept 07- dropped about 13 lbs by January. Then I joined WW in January and lost another 37lbs by August.
Later on, I lost about 10lbs in the past 2 years.

THank you ladies!
Linda- I don't have any excess skin. I think it has to do with one of two reasons (or a combination of both): I work out alot (including weight lifting and strength training) and I'm still young (I lost most of the weight when I was 22)

Re: Questions for those who dropped alot of weight...
I think there are two big keys - First, start SLOW, second, mix things up when you hit a plateau.
Most people give up because they start too intensly, too quick, which is a shock to the system and very hard to maintain over the longhaul.
The way it worked for me was to start with baby steps. First I joined WW online. I started watching what I eat, with making sure I ate ALL my daily points. Then, about 6 weeks into that, when I felt like I hit a plateau, I started incorporating more activity into my daily life - nothing too strenuous - just walking to the train every day, for a mile and a half.
After a few weeks of that, I started taking a short, 20 minute walk during lunch at work.
A few weeks later, I started taking longer walks at work, about 45mins-1 hour, on top of my daily walk to the train. At that point, I lost a good bulk of the weight.
Then I hit a plateau and I was getting bored with all the walking, so I amped it up and started the couch to 25k, and I'm now in week 4 and love it!!
So, my advice - baby steps. Break it into stages, which will make it attainable, and easier to maintain at the same time - good luck!!

I totally agree! This is probably the most important advice if you have alot of weight to lose. I was only losing 1-2lbs per week. It's a slow, steady process. But if you do it that way it stays off!
