Questions for those who switched jobs from one school to another
Going to the district offices today to meet with the superintendent, fill out paperwork, discuss the contract, etc. Do I discuss health insurance, what exactly I will be teaching, contact info for a coworker who can give me the curriculum map/pacing calender, a textbook for the summer etc etc etc, or is that something I talk to the school about directly?
I'm switching from the city, and they had HR connect to talk to about health insurance, salary differentials, etc. I am not sure how it works on Long island, but since DD is arriving in July, I want to make sure that when my city insurance is gone, that there won't be a waiting period for my LI insurance to kick in.. It's so stressful!

each district has its own protocol , you meet with the superintendent they talk to you a little bit and right then and there they should offer you the position, give you your your pay step- usually have the pay scale sheet out then you should be sent to Human Resources they are you doing paperwork and they will tell you about insurance then whatever to do after everything is done and once you put on the docket and board appointed then I would call up the school you'll be teaching it to reach out to the principal and see if he can put you in contact with the other teachers in your content area that you will be working with good luck congratulations

In terms of benefits, you will not have LI insurance until at least September, so you must make your resignation effective September 1 or until you officially start on LI, which will depend by district. Most LI districts have a benefits admin so you will receive more personalized service than from NYC HR Connect. In terms of content information, it's your immediate supervisor's job to get you ready for your teaching including getting you in touch with colleagues if appropriate.
