Questions re: Medical Insurance, hospital/ER visits
Just found out that everytime a family member goes into hospital, there is a $300 fee. per insurance coverage.
This yr alone, 3 of us were in/out patients.
Has anyone spoken to hospital and been able to cut that cost in any manner?
I cant imagine shelling that out right now.
Im not poor but just had some recent big hits lately and that would hurt us.
TIA or suggestions.

You can call them up and see if they'd be willing to take a lower amount especially being that's it for more than 1 member of your family. It's def worth a shot
If they DO agree to it, make sure that before you send a payment, they sign a letter confirming that they are settling that charge for X amount and that they won't be coming after you for the balance, kwim?

was it winthrop? they have a charity care dept and when you get the bills the number to all is on there. you need to wait until the bills come. they ask for a lot of info....paystubs, tax returns etc. our income was over the amount but i worked more last year so i sent a letter with it explaining he situation.
we had huge bills....about $4000 all together between the babies in the NICU an when DS was in the hospital. they took about 20% off and also set up a plan for me to mail then $75 a month.

Yes Winthrop but I dont think ill qualify for that charity part.
DH is NYC employee and he was just flipping on me just now, LOL.
Dont get me wrong..happy for health insurance and for what they do cover. it was just bad yr with a big hit.

Usually there is a family cap on that number. Does that apply for your insurance too?

Re: Questions re: Medical Insurance, hospital/ER visits
It sounds like it is your co-pay. My co-pay for hospital visits is $250 per day and ER visits are either $50 or $100 per visit. Our max PER VISIT if we stay is $1000.

I am sure it's your co-pay.
I remember reading on here a lot lately of many posters who have been successful in calling up and working out a payment plan with the hospital.
I feel ya though......it seem like it's always pouring for DH & I lately. Little things all at once can really add up to be a lot.

Re: Questions re: Medical Insurance, hospital/ER visits
They call it a co-insurance. Do you have GHI for doctors and BCBS for hospitals? When I had Derek I had a $300 copay for giving birth and then he was hospitalized at 2 months old and had another $300 copay. I wish they had a family limit, but it's per person
I would call the hospital and explain to them your situation. Ask if they can reduce the cost at all or if they can set up a monthly payment plan. $900 is a lot to shell out at one shot.

I doubt they will help you, DH , myself and my baby were in the ER this year and we got hit w/ 300 copays plus extra for treatments (10% I think of total cost)
the may break down the payment for you, but not lower it
