Radiant heat!? Help!
The house was built in 1885. The Last owners enclosed the porch and made it the family room. They installed radiant heat because that's the ONLY heat source. Unfortunately, the tile they chose is not our taste. We want to replace it with something else. Some people tell us they have to remove the old tile and radiant heat and replace everything!! Others have told us they can put the tiles in top of the old ones because it's thin and we won't lose much heat, maybe a few degrees.
Has anyone dealt with this before??

Re: Radiant heat!? Help!
It depends on how they did the radiant heat. If it is electric then it is most likely under the tile as a "mat" which is not really true radiant heat. In that case, you might have difficulty pulling up the tile without damaging the radiant heat "mat".
However, it they ran it as hot water radiant heat where the tubes were put in the concrete then you will have no problem at all since the tubes are completely buried in the concrete.
Hope this helps!

My fear with that is if someone jumps or has a lead foot they will crack your new tiles. I don't think this is a good idea, sorry.

Radiant heat!? Help!
I redid a floor with the radiant heat and just replaced the tiles. It works fine.
