radiation

ok. so my aunt has breast cancer and for the past 9 months or so has been dealing with chemo, a double masectomy, and now radiation. she is living with my parents and i have been there everyday. it just occurred to me that is this safe for me to be around her? does the radiation in her have any affect on me and the baby!??!? i am freaking out now!!!!!!

I think radiation for cancer treatment is not the same as other radiation that stays with you or can be transmitted (like certain dyes etc). But ask your doctor to be sure. So sorry about your aunt!

i dont think it has an effect... i worked for an oncology center and there were atleast three people preg and not one of the was worried about the radiation exposure

I dont think she would be emitting anything from her body that would affect you. Im sure you will be fine.

think about all the things you come into contact just every day...air pollution, subways, germs, etc. you'll be ok!

Well, I was radiated when DS was one years old and was specifically told not to go near him or any other children for 2 days so he could not visit me in the hospital. I would ask your obgyn but I think chemo radiation is different than what I had. I was injected with radioactive dye and then put under a special machine.

My mother is currently undergoing radiation treatment. Both her oncologist and my doctor stated the same thing, and that is she can be around the baby as long as she's not radioactive. I would speak more to your doctor about her specific treatment to determine whether or not it's safe for her to be around you and the baby.
