Random WWYD

Just curious if anyone would accept this offer - today I was running late for the LIRR - literally running (I walk from home). A guy drove by and slowed down when he noticed I was running and offered me a ride (2-minutes down the rode). I said no thank you - I wonder how many people would take a stranger up on such an offer.

ETS: Actually probably 30-seconds down the rode since I ran it in 5-minutes (I look like an @ss in my suit running thru my neighborhood every morning Chat Icon ). I told the guy it was my exercise for the day Chat Icon

I wouldn't - there's always another train if you miss the one you are running for.

Re: Random WWYD

WELLLL-something like this happened to me last week

i live near a bay-so when it rains the tide rises and thers a HUGE flood on my block-so last week, one morning, i walked to the corner n was standing there trying to figure out a way to walk to the train-bc all four corners were flooded.

my neighbor (who i never talked to or met before) offered me a ride. i felt funny at first, but he was like-ur not goin to be able to walk there at all-get in, ill drop u off

i still felt funny, but i took the ride-had he been a complete stranger? no..but still not the smartest of me LOL

Re: Random WWYD

No way. (Although I would think about it).

Once I got stranded on the highway and DH wanted to kill me bc I took a ride with a nice old lady to the gas station (about 2 minutes from where I was) but it was really dark and I was scared to be there alone. After that I learned my lesson.

Re: Random WWYD

I did something like that once. I accepted the offer. I was in the LIRR and the doors didn't open at my stop in the car I was in. I missed the stop. I had to be at work at 3:30am and it was 4:00pm. I was so tired I wasn't thinking straight. I let this guy who saw how upset I was drive me to my car one town away. I was fortunate that it was truly a good person trying to do the right thing. It was the absolute WRONG thing for me to do. He could have done anything with me once I got in his car. It was really stupid and I would never do it again. I am embarrassed I ever did it to begin with. There are good people out there but the bad people are too plentiful.

Re: Random WWYD

I chose other only because I was being honest with myself: I would NEVER accept a ride from a male stranger, 2 minutes down the road or not. BUT, I know I might have taken that ride if it was a woman who offered. Not necessarily safer, but....

Re: Random WWYD

If I recognized the passenger in the car from the train I would consider it. You know - those people you see everyday but don't really speak to. I figure they are trying to get to the train too.

I wouldn't get in the car of a random stranger.

Funny, I was just thinking about this very thing this morning. I used to live in Upper Ditmars and there were gypsy cabs that would drive back & forth to 31st street picking up people for a $1. Loved that!
