Re: Random WWYD
unless i recognized them, than no.
But i did take a ride from strangers once and did not feel weird about it at all. I missed my stop on the LIRR (had to be in the first 10 cars). And there was a guy and his son who also missed the same stop (we were all running through the cars together). I was trying to call my DH, but he didn't have his phone and he was waiting for me at the other stop. The guy said his wife was coming to get him and they would take me back to the train stop so I could meet my DH. I said yes and thank you- I mean it was a guy, his kid and his wife driving (who had no idea she was even taking me). what could happen? They seemed very nice, they drove me to the train, DH had already left and they drove me to my house. We saw DH on the way and made him pull over and I swtiched cars. They were total strangers, but I was very grateful for their help. Now, if it was just the guy- I would not have gone with him.

Unless I knew the person - no.
It just isn't worth it - I would have thanked them for offering and being nice but, nothing personal against them, you just never know and it isn't worth it to take a chance.

Re: Random WWYD
No I wouldn't. But I have offered rides - once to LIRR strangers, once to 2 teenagers. Both were during a blinding snowstorms. They were walking on the side of 25A & I could barely see a thing. I couldn't believe they would walk on the side of the road with that kind of weather.

I think in this case I would be more likely to say yes.

Re: Random WWYD
I would not ever accept a ride from a stranger like that.
However, I did once drive a stranger from the train station into town. I didn't know him personally, but he was someone I knew worked at this pizza place in town and I saw him there fairly frequently. He could have been an axe murderer for all I knew, but my brother and his (male) friend were also in the car, so I did it. He was annoying in the car too, telling me I was driving too fast when I totally wasn't!
Probably wouldn't do that again...

If I recognized the passenger in the car from the train I would consider it. You know - those people you see everyday but don't really speak to. I figure they are trying to get to the train too.
I wouldn't get in the car of a random stranger.
I agree with this. Probably still not a good idea though.

I would never get in the car with a stranger
but I did once give a ride to an old man with a walker- he was walking on a busy road with no side walk
I picked him up and drove him down the road to his assisted living place

Re: Random WWYD
I would never ever. Sad, but the world is too scary now. Doesn't matter to me if it was a woman - there are so many stories now of kidnapping scams and things like that where they use a woman to drive or pick up someone so the victim lets down her guard. I'm sure that 99% of rides would be fine, but that is not a risk I'm willing to take.
