RAVE Medela Pump in Style Advance
Well I just finished pumping for the very first time (my left boob looked and felt like a bowling ball and I needed relief) so I took the Medela out of the closet. I will admit, I was a chicken when it came to pumping - I thought it would be hard to set up, figure out, and more importantly I thought it would hurt!
Boy was I wrong. I bought the pump at the hospital last week when I delivered (they had a lactation center in the maternity unit and sold the pump for only $290 as opposed to the $320 or so that I saw it for at BRU and BBB) and I LOVE IT!!!! You can pump both breasts at once but I only did one - my will be waking up soon so I wanted him to breastfeed off the other one. It's pretty quiet - an it actually sounds like a baby's in-utero heartbeat during the initial 2 minute "simulations phase" which I found so soothing. Then it kicks into the "expression" phase that you can control with a little knob how strong of a suction you want. Then you sit back and it goes. I pumped for about 15 minutes and got 4 OUNCES OF MILK!!! I was shocked!! No wonder my boyfriend calls me "the milkmaid."
Anyway, for anyone on the fence about this pump, I just wanted to share my experience with you. I love it and I am no longer afraid to pump!!! WOO HOO!!!!!

You are so welcome!! It was a lifesaver for me today! I couldn't believe how easy it was to use and I didn't feel a thing except the light suction. I was actually able to prop myself up in bed, hook up the pump, and have a cup of coffee while watching TV! I feel soooo much better about returning to work soon and having to pump!

Re: RAVE Medela Pump in Style Advance
Definite rave. I also have it (unfortunately had to pay over $300) but it is worth the $$$. DS has issues latching on and luckily I can exclusively give him breast milk from the bottle thanks to this machine. Yes, it's a commitement (I have to pump evey 4 hours at least), but it's so worth it for the baby.

Thanks for sharing! Good to know...
Does anyone know if most hospitals sell the Medela at a discount?

Re: RAVE Medela Pump in Style Advance
thanks for the comforting email. I'm PETRIFIED about this whole breast feeding thing...almost more nervous about it than the labor....so, this makes me feel better.

Re: RAVE Medela Pump in Style Advance
Thanks for the review! I'm still going to rent one from the hospital first, just to make sure everything goes well, but my plan is to buy one, especially for when I go back to work!
