Reading glasses

Has anyone in their late 40's noticed their reading vision rapidly deteriorating? I am near sighted and wear contact leses for distance. I just had an increase in my prescription and with my contacts in, I now need to wear reading glasses! Ugh, I hate it. My reading vision is fine without the contacts in.

Not to mention the reading glasses they sell over the counter all look like old lady glasses.

Re: Reading glasses

When my vision is corrected- like when I have my glasses on or contacts in, I can't see up close very well. I find it getting harder and harder as I get into my 40s.

When they are out or my glasses aren't on- I can read right up close. Like I am talking 2 inches from my face.

My eye doc told me that the more near sighted you are the better your close up vision.
once you correct that, the close up gets worse.
So since you got a stronger prescription on your contacts that is why your up close vision got worse.

My eye doctor keeps me slightly under corrected on my distance contacts prescription for that reason.
It's like a balancing act.

I had Lasik done when I was 43 and I had to wear reading glasses almost immediately. But it was just here and there - could read things just fine, but it was a little blurry or my food was blurry as I brought it to my mouth.

However, I'm 48 now and I've noticed that my nearsightedness is rapidly changing the past 6 months and I can barely read my phone without needing glasses. :(

Re: Reading glasses

i've been wearing readers for about 8 years (i'm 46). it started when i needed a little help to see dark yarn colors when knitting.

last february/march, i had cataract removal surgery. i got "bionic" lenses put in... they have a broader range than the standard lenses. i still need readers/progressives. ugh!

i decided to embrace it. it got the cutest glasses i could find. they're kind of "cat eye" and real fun. i only need them for reading and computer use... my distance is almost perfect.

I think this is what I need to do, go buy some cute glasses. Thanks. Someone stop me if I try and buy one of those chains that holds them around my neck. lol.

This vendor we were out to dinner with last week had a tiny pair of reading glasses with no frames in a case on the back of his cell phone and when he had to read the menu he whipped them out and balanced them on the end of his nose. So just the lenses. Balanced on his nose.
It looked so ridiculous but I guess they are easy to whip on and off and so small you can keep them on the back of your cell phone.
I was laughing though

My dad has that, he doesn't want to wear glasses. He loves them. Thinks they are the best thing ever..

My DH wants them. He said the second he needs reading glasses he is getting them.

I feel like they would annoy me and I'd have more trouble trying to get them to stay on my damn nose!
