Spinoff - those with DC entering K reading - what books are they reading on their own? Need suggestions, thanks!
We've been going by our librarian's suggestions and it's hit or miss - some books my DS loves some not so much - some seem to be exactly his level, some too easy, some too hard. Looking for something interesting for him to read!
We've done Biscuit books (liked at first but, then got bored of the series), Mudge books (liked these more than biscuit books), Elephant and piggy (enjoyed them but, some are a little ahead of where he is reading - he doesn't know all the words), and some random non-series books the librarian suggested.

Fly Guy books! Don't know the author offhand, but there is a series of 6 or 7 of them. They are a nice easy level, and my reluctant reader thought they were pretty funny too :)

Thanks! Yes, we have done all the bob series - those were the books he started with a while ago. They are way too easy at this point and, more importantly, from my DS's perspective - as he says BORING   I have to entertain this kid to entice him to read Though, I will say, they were very helpful in getting him to understand the idea of sounding out.

Fly Guy books! Don't know the author offhand, but there is a series of 6 or 7 of them. They are a nice easy level, and my reluctant reader thought they were pretty funny too :)

that is how we started, if he is past that, my kid is a little nutty and on a tree kick.
we go to the library and get non fiction books on different trees.
this week is maple.
sounding out the words is annoying...but he is doing it slow and choppy.
maybe just go for something he is interested in...he reads words he knows and you help with bigger ones.

Just FYI - Hi Fly Guy books while great (my kids love them!) are still a level I (and they are probably one of the lower level series books) Level I is end of first grade level. (of course there will be kids below and above)
Biscuit is a G; Goodnight Moon is an H - just to give you some idea. You don't want to frustrate kids when they are learning to read.
Kindergarten reading level is A-C (1st is B-I):

WOW! This is SO helpful!!!! Thank you so much! I don't know how you know all this but, it's great to know! I actually don't really know many of these bks at all! I'm wondering why the librarian didn't explain this level system! Surprised to see that Biscuit is Level G and a Bernstein Bears book is at level A! At any rate, we have a nice long list for the next library trip. THANK YOU SO MUCH
