"real parent" and food spinoff...
Leo and I heard this on Howard Stern one morning and its always the ongoing debate/joke in my home.
2 kids.
1 whole chicken
2 legs.
DH's favorite part of chicken is legs, but its the only part of the chicken that kids will eat. who gets the legs???????
Leo says there are only 2 options.
1. he gets both legs everytime to avoid it all together.
2. he gets one, and kids alternate who gets the other leg each time.
He doesn't consider it for a second that dad should step back and give up legs since he does get the rest of the chicken.
Its his chicken, he paid for it.
I sort of agree...but I would never eat the legs, even if it was my favorite part, if that was the only part my kids were going to eat. 
thoughts? does the dad own the chicken?

lets say they love chewing the cartilage off of the legs...that's what makes it their favorite part.

Continue to buy your 1 whole chicken and then go up to the guy at the meat counter and get an extra leg... or 2 depending on how hungry DH is!

Theoretically, If I only had one whole chicken, the legs would go to the kids. I'd tell my DH not to be selfish and share. Theyr'e the kids, he's the adult.
What I'd really do though is never buy the whole chicken. I'd buy just legs at the grocery store so everyone got legs. Then the kids would be happy, DH would be happy, and mommy, who couldn't give a crap which part of the chicken she ate so long as she was allowed to eat it in peace and quiet while sitting at the table for more than 2 min, would be exstatic.

I always give DC whatever they want, first. I won't even take 2nds of stuff unless I know that DC are finished and/or there is more than enough for them to get what they want. I can always find something to eat. It's much more important that DC eat what they want, and have a good experience eating. I grew up with a competition for food with my sibs, and it affects me to this day. I eat way too fast, and I'm pretty sure it's from my childhood when the fastest eater got the best/most food. I don't want my DC to grow up that way.
DC get the legs, even though I like them. Luckily, DD is too young to eat off the bone, and DS doesn't really have a preference, so I get both legs (for now....)

DS would get what he wants. We always joke that he is the king of our household and we are merely his subjects bowing to his demands to make sure his majesty is happy - LOL! He would get BOTH legs and dad could eat whatever else was left once mom got the chicken boobs

im peeing!!!!!!!!!!!!! we have this dilemma everytime I make chicken...
so.
Both older kids share one leg and get some breast meat...
babies...white meat-
dh...either one leg or.....he gives it up and I cut it where he gets the upper half of legs--the big thighs and both kids get the legs..
crap. Im my house I will starve thinking oh..I can't eat that--the kids like it..
then they never eat it!!!!!!!!!!
if I do eat it...they wanted it...cannot win.lol

It would probably depend on the age of the child, but likely I would give the legs to DH. I think there should be a pecking order (no pun intended) in a household.
It's like when an adult is sitting on the crappy chair & the kid is on the cushiony one.
