And another thing..I will NEVER jump in to help anyone again. People proved what they were yesterday. I just cant believe they would beat a 60 year old woman in the face. It was an awful experience and I am still shaken up. Its really a sad, sad world. 
Incidences like this are why my DH always says to keep yourself safe first and tells me to stay out of things if I am not in danger. I don't blame you, you all could have been seriously injured simply trying to help someone. Glad you are all ok and WHY did the cops take so long???
And I can't believe none of your neighbors stepped in to help you!!!

I'm glad you are okay, there are some crazy people out there.
The police take so long because they are overworked and under staffed.There are too many calls coming in for help- and not enough coverage.
They can't hire cops- and the ones they have are leaving in droves.
You can thank Mayor Bloomberg - he obviously thinks the city can't afford to pay cops enough money to recruit and retain them...This is a prime example of how this crisis affects everyone in the city!

How horrible!!! Im glad your mom is OK now. You must have been terrified! I would have.
I am in no way defending the neighbors, but I wonder if people didn't get involved because maybe they thought it was a family dispute??
I think a lot of people feel like they don't want to get involved if its a family thing.

Or maybe because the girls were naked the men were afraid the girls would say they had tried to molest them??
I can totally believe that no one helped. My friend and I were attacked by a dog once and ALL the neighbors stood and watched. It's AWFUL that people are like that!!
I hope you, your mom and sister are OK. It is SO SAD that you are not pressing charges because you're concerned about retaliation. That is the most awful part of the story to me. I know how you feel, though, I agree with you, it's just sad that you have to worry about this!! I hope you never have to see or hear from them again.

They received 21 911 calls about this incident. Between neighbors calling and when we finally got inside, we called. I actually got into a fight with the operator the last time I called because she said Maam we have received many calls about this already!
Are you kidding me?? Then get here! And the odd thing is, once one car got here, 5 more showed up at the same time. I am all for cops, I come from a family of police officers but this was just ridiculous. If they would have gotten here faster, the actual fight would have been broken up much sooner. If SOMEONE would have chosen to help us, it would have ended sooner too. Unreal!
I'm sorry Your mom got hurt by trying to help these piece of garbage, I'm glad you are all ok and i agree the cops should have got there sooner like in 2 sec's not 40 minutes... If i was there and lived in queens i would have definetely tried to help you, I would have B!tched slapped them ... Next time let those girls do what they want because no appreciate kindness anymore, All they know about is cruelness and hatred and beating up on someone who is old enough to be their mother.Sorry but i'm livid and when i hear stories like this it make's me mad.

I cannot imagine what I would do if I saw a girl hit my mother or sister. I would lose it and probably end up being the one going to jail.
The saddest part is that no one helped you!

I am SO sorry that you and your family had to go through that, especially when your mom was just trying to help these girls (who obviously are in need of someone to intervene and help them).
As for the neighbors, it's sad that no one came to help but I'm also not surprised. There's actually a psychological term for what happened - "diffusion of responsibility" or "bystander effect." In various studies, researchers have found that the larger the group of bystanders, the less likely it is that someone will intervene. Basically, they're waiting for someone else to do it or they're not sure how to react to the situation and are looking to others for cues as to how to respond.
Here's more information on it (for me, I think that knowing about the bystander effect makes me more willing to step into a situation and help because I know that I shouldn't wait for someone else to do it): Bystander Effect
