Received product for free in exchange for honest review

When you're browsing through reviews of a product on say Amazon or Target and a majority of them say "received product as free promotion in exchange for honest review", or some similar wording, do you automatically discard the product and move on regardless of what the reviews say or do you take these reviews and this product seriously and still consider buying it based on those reviews?

I just feel like sometimes I see products where at least 80% or more of the reviews are in exchange for having received the product for free and I just can't take the product or the reviews seriously so I click the x. I find it so annoying. Would you give the product a chance?

I agree. I am skeptical when I see that. But if the uncompensated reviews are good too, the compliments are specific, and there aren't too many negative reviews, I would give it a chance.

Honestly I am skeptical of all reviews. Even bad ones. People arent likely to take time to make a positive review, except when they receive the product free. Everyone will be first to post a bad review when they have a problem...

It depends, if all of the reviews are amazing and were based on receiving the item for free, I would skeptical, HIF the reviews seem more balanced, I'd be more inclined to buy it.

Sending out sample products is a legitimate way to get reviews out in the world before the product is available to the public, but of course, there is the chance people won't honest because they want to receive free things in the future or subconsciously they like eh product more because it was free.

Received product for free in exchange for honest review

There have been several times this past year that a seller on Amazon had either offered my husband or me some sort of compensation for a good review or compensation to take down a bad review. The ones that receive the product in order to review might be actually be more legit than many regular reviews, although I'm really starting to distrust most of the reviews now.

Yup. I always get postcards for a free Amazon card when I send them a screenshot of my review.

Re: Received product for free in exchange for honest review

i used to participate in a program that would send me items in the mail. i would test/consume the item and then send a detailed review. i would also get financially compensated for my time ($3/review).

i can only speak of my experience.
i always gave a completely honest review.

some of the items were things i already was familiar with and some were new-to-me.

granted, i do not know if my reviews were ever published or only used internally for the release/tweaking of new products.

Same here. I always give an honest review. Even if it's negative. The only time one of my reviews was excluded was when it was testing a new cat litter. My cat wouldn't even go near the box and ended up going to the bathroom in a corner of the house. So I stopped using it and they excluded my review because I didn't continue to use it for a full 7 days. I felt like that leads to biased reviews, but the product testing is done through a 3rd party. So they can choose not to include certain results or only use the good testimonials. I think most people are honest. It's just a matter of how the reviews are collected and posted. On a platform like Amazon, I'm pretty sure they can't just delete the bad reviews.

I just want to know how I can get free products in exchange for an honest review.
I always see that and I never know how these people get involved in that deal.
I'd do it in a heartbeat!
