I don't know if there's a set amount. I got a bunch with the layette. Gotta figure the baby's gonna spit up or soak through diapers so you have a bunch of less expensive ones and I wanted a few to match with outfits when we go out to friends, family things, whatever.

Honestly, about 6 - 10. I used them for everything. Swaddling, burp cloths, to cover the changing pad etc...

i'd say 10-12, but i wouldn't register for too many.
In my circle of family and friends it seems that whether you register for them or not you still get alot of receiving blankets.

The first few clothes and other things you need when you first bring your baby home. Not everyone does it. I'm not having a shower so picked out my layette at Denny's and someone will pick it up for me when I'm in the hospital
