Recommend your train table

So I want to get my DS a train table for Christmas and I am not sure which one to buy. I just looked them up and I see the Imaginariu,m, Kidkraft, Step 2, Thomas the Train... I want to make sure that the train table comes with tracks that work with the Thomas the Train die-cast trains. Does anyone have any recommendations? TIA

Re: Recommend your train table

The die cast trains are smaller than the wooden Thomas trains so they're too small for the wooden tracks. As far as the Thomas products go, they only work with the Take N Play and the older Take Along plastic sets. I don't know if they would be compatible for any other sets. If you can find a floor model for any of the ones you've mentioned, you may want to take a train with you and test them out.

(I can't recommend a train table because we don't have one. Our developing "train world" is set up on the floor on the interlocking foam tiles.)

Thanks so much. I was just researching the tables more and I don't think the die cast trains will be compatible with any of the tracks that come with the train tables. I just have to accept the fact that i will have to now buy wooden Thomas trains.

The Imaginarium, and Kidkraft tables look really nice. Which one has more storage space for trains? Does anyone have experience with either one of these tables?

Re: Recommend your train table

I have the imaginarium table and really like it. It has two big drawers on either side for storage. Though DS is playing with it constantly, so we rarely have anything in the drawers.

There are certain tracks that have sound chips in them, and so when any train rolls over (not just the ones that come in the set) it makes noise. My DS thought this was AWESOME.

The tracks just sit on top of the table, they don't click into place or get glued down, which I think is typical of most tables. Do yourself a favor and save the instructions! DS likes to ram his trucks into the tracks, and it is a fairly complex configuration to have to put back together on the quick.

HTH!

Thanks so much!! I really liked the look of the imaginarium online. I have to check it out in the store.
