Recovery from C-Section ?

I go home from the hospital today, and I am pretty scared. I am still in a lot pain.

How long did it take for the pain to subside enough for you to be able to actually enjoy walking around?

For me it was about a week or 2. I remember just walking very slowly.
Once the staples were out, I felt so much better. Still sore, but, better.
DH was off for 2 weeks. I was in the hospital for 6 days and then we were home the rest. By the time he went back to work I felt really good.

Re: Recovery from C-Section ?

I was hurting and pretty well drugged up for 2 weeks....take your pain meds and relax, you will feel better before you know it

and I know it hurts, but force yourself to walk around a bit, that will help with the healing

2weeks or so depending on your tolerance to pain. Getting out of bed was the worst for me. just relax, take the pain meds if you can and just take it easy. dont lift too much ( i know its hard but def try) and take the help thats offered to you! Chat Icon

Re: Recovery from C-Section ?

Def. 2 weeks. And, take your meds. I was on the painkillers - and motrin - every couple of hours.

Even when my painkillers ran out I lived on Motrin.

Take it easy - I know that's easy to say but I didn't - and I bled like crazy to the point where chunks were coming out of my body (TMI - I'm sorry) - so try and rest as much as you can these next two weeks or so.

And, congrats!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Recovery from C-Section ?

I was in major pain for about a week. Then it was sore but not as bad. I had twinges here and there for about 6-7 weeks.

Hope you feel better soon!

Re: Recovery from C-Section ?

Honestly I was very lucky. I was walking around with only minor discomfort by the time I came home from the hospital. When I would get up, especially from laying down position, it was rough, but my advice is just to relax, but keep walking every so often to help loosen the muscles, and if you need pain meds take them. And let people help, if they want to change the baby, let them, trust me you have plenty of dirty diapers ahead of you!

Congrats on your DS!!!!!!!!Chat Icon

Re: Recovery from C-Section ?

I was lucky and didn't have too much pain right after I was released but at 3 weeks, I can still only walk slowly and not a very long distance.

Also, try to avoid any bending, squatting or stretching.

I spent a full week accidentally dropping things on the floor and DH had to pick up after me.

Take your pain meds. You need to feel good to take care of your baby.

Feel better.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Recovery from C-Section ?

It does hurt for a couple of weeks but the pain medication really helped me. As a pp mentioned, it's good to keep trying to walk around a little bit each day through the pain.

Honestly, Even 3 months later, you will still feel a little tinge of pain when you touch the incision.

Best of luck and accept whatever help you get! No need to be scared. Chat Icon

Walk as much as possible but TAKE IT EASY! Like others have said above, take anyone's help who offer. Don't be a martyr. You had major surgery and need to heal Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Recovery from C-Section ?

This was my 2nd c-section but its been a week and I feel great already! You really have to take it easy when your home, it takes 2 weeks for the outside to heal and a month for the inside. Chat Icon

Re: Recovery from C-Section ?

I just had DD via C section a week ago and I'm feeling a little better each day. I was taking my pain meds religiously but now I kinda spread it out a little more. I'm trying to take the motrin over the perkaset (sp?). The hardest thing is definitely getting out of bed, but even that has gotten easier. I've been taking it pretty easy but when I do a little too much I can definitely tell and then I slow down a bit. You should rest as much as possible, but don't be afraid to get up and move around some. It does help, but don't overdo it. Good luck to you and congrats!!
