refusing to eat - when do you keep at it? when do you give up? tips needed
so Allison didn't eat much today. Actually, I've noticed for the past few days (3 days i'd say) she hasn't had much of an appetite. I've let breakfast go, thinking she'd be hungry for lunch. Lunch comes and goes without much intake. I let it slide again thinking she'll make up for it at dinner and again, the same thing. Today it just hit me how very little food she's had and I insisted feeding her...well she picked today as the day she learned how to push food out of her mouth which made things even worse. .
throughout the day she seems fine, plays like normal. her naps are starting to get funky, she used to take a nap from 10-12 and another one from 3-5, but lately she's been napping for an hour in the am and the pm nap is anywhere from 1.5-2 hours.
i just took her to the ped (unrelated visit) on friday and he wasn't concerned at all about her weight (btw she's 9 months old, 21 lbs) he said she has a runny nose which could be the first signs of a cold, but she also gets those when she's teething. is decrease of appetite a teething thing? when do you start to get concerned? any tips?
as far as her food intake, she'll usually have about 5-6 tablespoons of table food or cereal. she'll also nurse 2 times a day and has two 8 ounce bottles of formula throughout the day too.
can anyone help?

Sadie has been the SAME WAY!!! I posted about it last week because she went a day and a half only having about 7 oz of formula and I was freaking.
Must be the age.
She doesnt have the patience to drink her bottles half the time unless I distract her with about 12 different toys and still it is take a few sips, push away, look around, laugh, take 2 sips, repeat.
She doesnt eat nearly as much baby food as she used to and it takes much longer to feed her.
ETA: Shes 8.5 months and also about 21/22lbs

Lily is a little over 2 now and she's never been much of an eater. We decided a long time ago to let her eat when she wants to and not to make an issue out of it. I don't want to make mealtimes unpleasant for any of us. So, some days, she eats very little (example: 4 pieces of pasta for dinner), and then other days, she'll eat more (example: yesterday she are an entire sandwich).
Pretty much, she'll have one day a week when she eats a lot, and the rest of the week she picks and chooses.

wow! you'd think they'd be starving! i really hope this phase doesn't last long, i would hate for her to make it a habit to stop eating altogether

is she refusing formula as well??? i know our doc told us that when they are teething - they can start rejecting food and the bottle and stuff because the sucking motion hurts their jaw/teeth.

i've seen my mom try every trick in the book to get my little brother to eat (let him eat whatever/whenever he wants, force feeding, everything!) and i'm just afraid allison will turn out like that. my little brother is skinny...like skeletal! its so scary.
allison is so tiny still i wish she could feed herself so i could stop worrying about doing it for her

no...she actually goes crazy for the bottle, she'd have formula 24/7 if i offered it. i just get annoyed cause i keep hoping at the next meal time she'll eat something and before i know it the day is over and she hasn't eaten anything! grrr

At her age, she should still be getting most of her nutrition from formula anyway....food is pretty much practice. So if she prefers formula, go with it. You can keep offering her food, but I wouldn't stress too much if she doesn't want it.

thanks..i'll offer her more formula since that's like candy for her anyways. i think we both need a break from this stressful ordeal!

My son has been refusing his bottles and i know he is getting three teeth at once. He still loves his table food though...But he maybe had about 10 oz of formula today. I am not too concerned since he weighs 24 lbs! If it goes on for much longer than 2 days or so I will calll my ped...

DS was the same way today...he actually started to push my hand away when I tried to spoon feed him solids.
But he's still taking his bottles, so I'm not concerned. Milk/formula is most important still, so I don't think it's a big deal if he's not eating all his solids..neither is his ped.
ETA: He is 8.5 m/o, teething badly, and 19lbs. 2 oz.
