Tips on starting solids needed
Sydnie is 4 months old now, still eating every 3 hours or so, and still waking 2x a night. So, I have decided to start some cereal. We tried a few times in the past (to get her more satisfied and help with the reflux) but it is always a disater. It's like if she's not hungry enough she won't bother but if she's too hungry she gets frustrated and just wants the bottle. Any tips for getting her to eat cereal off of the spoon? I am over here.

Re: Tips on starting solids needed
My DD took to the spoon and solids right away (about 4 1/2 months) my DS was a whole other story. He wanted NOTHING to do with it. We just tried every now and then and by 5 - 5 1/2 months he finally took to it and now loves it.
Sometimes they just aren't ready that young, even though we want them to be Just keep offering it - every few days or weeks, don't force it.
ETA don't wait until she's too hungry (or not hungry.) I usually give DS his am bottle between 6 - 7 am and then he eats his cereal by 8:30. If I wait until 9am it's screaming screaming screaming and all he wants is a bottle. So try it inbetween bottles.

Maybe give her half a bottle, then try the cereal, so she's not starving, but still hungry. It's really a learning process for them, so be patient and keep trying.

Why don't you try putting some cereal in the bottle so she can get the taste of it

Re: Tips on starting solids needed
We did cereal in the bottle with Y cut nipples for about 3 or 4 weeks. DD has tummy issues so we started that at about 3 1/2 months. At 4 1/2 months the doctor and gastro said we should start solids, mixed with cereal and formula. DD really likes it and I've seen a difference. Also, since eating solids she spaces out her bottles to every 4 hours and has kept up the volume. I can't say it has change anything with her sleeping. HTH

Re: Tips on starting solids needed
Thanks everyone. She did MUCH better tonight. I gave her a bottle at 4 and then cereal at 6 and it was perfect. She didn't eat much but I think she finally figured out that it is food

I'd rather her just start eating off of the spoon if she's ready. She did pretty good but boy is it messy

Oh yay! I loved when Ava started eating cereal. It was just the cutest thing ever, even though it was so messy. I had so much fun watching the faces she made as she tried to make sense of it
