Re: Regretting the puppy...

Do you have a divider for the crate? If you reduce the size to just big enough that the puppy can turn around they will be less likely to soil their crate.

I advise against wee wee pads. You might struggle more in the beginning but training will take far less time overall with limited setbacks. If a puppy thinks it is OK to go in a particular spot that is their spot, whether or not a wee wee pad is there.

Take puppy out after every nap or sleep session, after every meal, after every vigorous play session, about 10 minutes after ever drink of water and before you go to bed. Remove all fod and water at 6:30pm. Use the same area (outside) and the same command for puppy to relieve himself. We use "do your business".

By enduring some VERY cold trips out side (never again will I get a pup in the winter), crate training and major praising success my puppy was fully house trained by 3.5 months. I even taught her to ring a bell to let us know she has to go out.

BTDT. We got our current dog almost 2 years ago - he was already 8/9 months old, but he had never lived in a house. It was as though we had a real puppy - had to teach him everything. He did catch on pretty quickly though. Now I just regret getting him b/c he's a shedding monster and he's a hound - so when he barks, it's a LOUD howl!
