Why can't you give at least 2 weeks notice? I would think a new employer would be understanding of that.

Also how much time were you planning to take off with the new job vs. the old?

Is this your first child? What if they were to come earlier?

Also, if it's any help, I started my maternity leave 2 weeks before DS was born. He was born exactly on his due date, 2 weeks later, and within a month of being home with him, I was totally itching to get back to work, if anything for the "break" and to be around other adults.

I realize this is a different feeling for everyone though, but maybe it will make your thoughts about taking the new job, easier.

I was going to ask the same about why won't they wait 2 weeks, & is it your first?

I'm a SAHM, however originally when I moved to NC I was pregnant & interviewing (literally up to a week prior to delivery), & 100% willing to start a position ASAP! I even said I would start some training in person, & available via phone conference & emails to keep me up to speed for the first month. I really wanted to secure a position that badly!! (they passed on me & that commitment to work Chat Icon ) so, you are very lucky they are willing to hire you!

It's not that the job won't let me give two weeks notice, it's more that my own circumstances combined with the needs of the job may make it so that I am not able to give two weeks notice. I can't get more into it without giving away too many personal details at the moment. However I may end up able to give two weeks notice - I'm not sure yet.

And yes, this is my first child.

in theory, I would say #2, which I'm sure you would take in a heartbeat if you were not pregnant.
How long of a maternity leave were you planning on taking with your current job? and how long will you be able to take if you accept this new position?
its much easier to give advice when your not in the situation yourself, so with that along, I would say take the job. However, my own DD was born in February, and I made the decision to stay at home afterwards and not return to work because I didn't want to give up a second of being with her. so, I don't know how I would be able to handle a very short maternity leave.
