Leb,
>>soy is horrible 95% of it is gmo. If you get organic it is also horrible because it mimics estrogen in the body.

Thats what I heard. But what is the harm in excess estrogen in a girl?

Excess estrogen can lead to early onset of puberty and it is believed to possibly increase the risk of estrogen sensitive cancers.

This. Google negative effects of soy.

In our country we over produce soy (and corn). So that's what we feed to animals. Gmo soy and corn. It's cheap because we have too much of it. That's why soy bean oil and corn syrup are in everythingggg. Especially chocolate! It's hard to find chocolate without soy letchin which makes me sad because I love chocolate.

Why don't you try coconut milk?

Also read up on the GAPS diet. It's an extreme diet for children with allergies, asthma, eczema and other sensitivities. I am NOT suggesting you try it. But merely to learn about it. I swear I am still shocked my dd is doing so well. Was even talking to my parents tonight about it. I think cutting dairy out fully was what made the difference

I agree with everything that's been said. DS was dairy intolerant up until very recently (he's 19 months) and even now can only tolerate small amounts of dairy without his eczema or reflux flaring. We use primarily almond milk but he only drinks about 8-9oz of it before bed. We've also had luck with coconut milk. Hemp milk is an option too and is very nutritious. I think whatever path you choose you'll probably have the best luck transitioning your DC oz by oz. Americans place way too much emphasis on the importance of milk but frankly only baby cows need cows milk. There are definitely ways to make sure kiddos get their vital nutrients and calories through food sources so try not to stress if she doesn't go for another type of milk :)

There is a really interesting short video about why we even drink milk. It had to do during rough times when we didn't have access to real food. Milk tided us over. So farmers started investing in cows to make money, when times became less lean no one needed milk so the need was "created" and that's when the milk propaganda marketing started going on. There are plenty of foods higher in calcium than milk.

The shortened version of why we think we need milk is all about $$$. Only baby cows need cow milk. In general, mammals only need milk when they are babies, after that it is totally unnecessary. The dairy industry is a business all they want is money. As far as doctors go; from what I've read, they actually have very little education in the way of nutrition.

From a dietitians standpoint, kids don't "need" milk. As long as you can get adequate calcium in, milk is just a drink. You can get DHA from other sources also, supplements, fortified eggs, yogurts

What allergies does DD have?

Maybe we'll try coconut milk.

Since DD is allergic to tree nuts, we'll stay away from Almond milk.
