Reporting businesses?
Does anyone know if you can report businesses who don't follow the mask rule? I was just in the bagel store and the workers had their masks down around their mouths (their noses were exposed) and they were touching their faces with their gloves and then touching the food.
They also had a sign up that customers must wear masks and none of the other customers had masks on.
I only see a link to email the county about large gatherings. Not sure this fits, but I'd rather report to the state anyway.

I wouldn't waste your time. They will just continue on anyway. I imagine its uncomfy to wear a mask all day, I always see workers everywhere with the mask under their nose. The bagel store me is nasty, too. They take the money and make the food with the same gloves on. I threw my food away and won't ever go back there.

ok, maybe its me but do not be that person. Everyone is adjusting to this new normal and for most of these workers, they've never had to wear a mask all day every day. If you don't like it say something to a manager, don't shop there but don't report them.

If this is your normal place that you absolutely love, maybe talk to a manager if you are comfortable with that. If it is someplace you would not go back to, I would just do that.
Honestly I can't imagine what workers did before this with food too and now (not you but in general) people are freaking out that they are not wearing gloves or not changing gloves. Why did they never speak up before?

I'm pretty sure when you open a food business you understand that you and your staff need to follow health regulations. It's part of the deal.
This would be disgusting under normal circumstances. COVID just makes it worse. They may be uncomfortable wearing masks but if they're infected, pick their nose and butter someone's bagel, the person eating the bagel will be a lot more uncomfortable than someone who has to wear a mask.
It's irresponsible.

I'm more concerned about the worker touching his nose and then the food than the customers not wearing masks.

The touching the nose would be a problem any day and that employee should be spoken to. The mask thing is difficult. I'm trying to remember where it is but it's definitely stated that an employee doesn't have to wear one if they have a medical condition and they don't have to disclose their medical condition to the employer.
As others mentioned, I'd speak to the manager before reporting them.

You specifically asked for a number to get them in trouble about the masks. So stop it. Especially now when almost everyone is struggling because of all this. Maybe have a little compassion and not think everyone is out to spread Covid.
I’m sorry but the Mask crusader mentality and the busy body/ holier than thou, I’m saving the world attitude is annoying.

As a former small business owner I always encourage people to go to the manager or owner and let them know your concerns before reporting them to anyone, taking to social media, or posting a bad review online. Their livelihood is greatly impacted by those things. The owner might not be on premises that day and the employees might be breaking the rules. It is so difficult to find good employees and most of them do break the rules at some points even with the best owners/managers.

You do know the mask isn’t going to prevent that. People pull them down all the time and touch their face then pull them back up. This is also why masks are probably a worse idea for people preparing food because they are wearing these gloves and probably touching their face more because the masks are irritating them and then making your food.
ETA: like others said, talking to the manager is the best approach if that’s all you’re really concerned about.

They were sneezing on your food your whole life.
If it really bothers you from a health perspective, talk to the manager because they can immediately act to remedy the problems you saw. If you file a report, it could take who knows how long for the health dept to address it (if ever). Meanwhile there will be hundreds more booger bagels served in the meantime.

Pay attention, guys. The fact that this even became a debate is bone chilling. This "debate" won't age well.
Being anti mask or even neutral on masks for food preparers and others with certain types of unavoidable contacts is quite a statement during a deadly pandemic. And it's provocative. Deliberately so.
You want to open back up? You want to contain deadly disease so kids can return to school where they belong? You want to show compassion for the most vulnerable among us? Pay attention.

Yes, but by reporting the business you are hurting the business owner and they might not have been there at the time that the violations were occurring. If you went to the owner and they told you they didn't care and didn't plan to do anything about it, sure, go ahead and report them. But that's like someone stepping on your lawn and you call the police to report trespassing before just asking the person to get off the lawn. Please give the owner a chance to respond before reporting them or posting a bad review, etc.

Do both. The Board of Health won't shut a place down based on hearsay. They will investigate. If, by the time they get it together to investigate, the store is not in compliance, it should be shut down. Owners are responsible for what goes on at their places of businesses, just as state governments and police chiefs have accountability for their cops. We place lots of public trust in both, especially now. Being open is a huge responsibility now...the buck stops with the owner for not turning the place into a death vector.

I'm confused. Is the complaint about the masks or about the boogers? A food worker spreading boogers on food has always been a health code violation and you'd contact the health department. I'm not sure if there's a new separate contact just for masks? Is the state even enforcing the mask rule?
Either way, it's probably faster just to speak directly to the owner as a first step and hope they rectify.
