Every time I try to resume some normalcy, someone I know contracts Covid. And while most of them have been fine, I do have underlying health conditions and my anxiety skyrockets. I am fully vaccinated. That isn't to say we aren't doing anything, but we limit who we see, and what we do. We've eaten indoors a few times- only places I felt comfortable with (we go when it's not crowded, eat and leave). We had an outdoor bday celebration for my DD two weeks ago (very few kids and only people I trust). We go to stores as needed, my DD takes a gym class. She is still remote learning though (for multiple reasons). I am still working from home and that's likely a permanent situation. My sister went to a restaurant and ate indoors with friends. Her friend did not tell her she'd be exposed, did not test & did not quarantine, she was not exhibiting symptoms. 48 hours later, my sister started exhibiting symptoms and tested positive a few days after that, so did her husband. She exposed our mom and her MIL, who are now quarantined. My sister had to miss being MOH at a family member's wedding bc of this selfish "friend" (her MIL who she has just seen AND HUSBAND were home with Covid and she neglected to tell my sister that until after my sister tested positive). So, while I'm all about getting back to normal, I'm still scared and don't trust people.
Being fully vaccinated doesn't ease that fear though? If being fully vaccinated isn't enough for you to feel safe- what will be? The vaccine is supposed to work to prevent infection and if you do get infected prevent severe symptoms, no?
Exactly it all makes no sense to me. People wanted this vaccine but they are still afraid to go out and will still wear makes. Soooo do you think it works or do you not?
Stop confusing FEAR with CAUTION which are two very different things. People are still being cautious until enough of the population is fully vaccinated at which point life can be more "normal".
That is total fear if you are thinking that you could get he virus and leave your children. That is possible, unfortunately and sadly everyday from anything. We don’t stop driving or flying or walking or doing anything. We can be more cautious but many are feared like the OP mentioned.
YOU said above that people wanted the vaccine but are still "afraid" to which I replied that people aren't fearful, they are cautious until enough people are vaccinated. Now isn't the time to ditch the masks and go back to regular living but soon enough that will be the case. In the meantime people will continue to be cautious.
To be fair, I did say I was scared. Maybe I used the wrong word, but I do have fears about this. But, that's ME. I suffer from anxiety and this year has really put it to the test.
I don't know what the right answer is. I got tested when my sister tested positive, because at first we weren't sure when she contracted it and I had seen here within the 10 days prior to her 1st symptoms. I told the nurse I was fully vaccinated and he told me "unfortunately, we are seeing more people test positive than we would like or expect that are fully vaccinated. the good news is most have mild or no symptoms". For me, I will take all the protection I can get. Mask, vaccine, hand washing/sanitizer, choosing who I see, etc, etc. I do not want the virus because of my health history. that doesn't mean I'm right or wrong.
You are absolutely correct and that is my point all along. If you are worried and want to take the extra pro cautions then you should have ever right to without people coming down on you. Just like people who want to go not wear a mask and social distance and live as much as they can before should not have people coming down on them either. It’s time to let everyone make their own decisions.

I do have the vac but even if I didn't I'd be out. It's enough already...
Funny how so many people can be controlled. I heard yesterday that Biden might change his mind over people having parties for 4th of July. WHO are these people that are robots and saying ok even after the vaccine?
The president has zero authority to deem whether people can gather in their homes with family so that is the silliest thing I ever heard from the first time he mentioned it. Who even listens to that?
Oh I am sure there are many that do. I watched a woman walk down the street today, not a single soul around her, wearing a mask. People believe the virus flies in the air. It is crazy how much people will believe and how they have stopped their lives for over a year.
How is wearing a mask while you walk down the street stopping your life? I live my life but I wear a mask. I walked down the street completely alone today to go to the atm with my mask on. Walked right past multiple big signs reminding people that masks are required. I don't get why it bothers anyone to see people wearing masks.
It makes no sense as who are you protecting?

Do you wear it while alone in your car as well? I'm fascinated by that and would love to hear the reasoning of those people. Fascinated.

Myself and anyone else around? I mean, I'd prefer to put it on and forget about it than to carry it with me and rush to put it on when someone approaches. It's not impossible to spread it outside and I think it's basic human decency to wear it around people you don't know. What if I don't know I have it and spread germs onto the atm? I just wear the mask so I don't have to worry about the what ifs. It's actually pretty easy.

No I don't. I also don't wear it walking alone in my neighborhood but if I'm in town walking down main street I wear it whether I see people or not.
I assume most people who wear it alone in the car have their reasons but I also don't attempt to understand most people bc you'll go mad. But just one example, if my BIL were on his way to pick up his father who has health complications I assume he wears it. It's just a layer of protection to make sure germs aren't building up in the car before his dad gets in.

Mask wearing is to protect OTHERS. That has been said all along but people do not listen. If there is no one around how would it spread? They have said it does not stay on things so your germs would not be on the atm and if they are, so you also wear gloves alone?
I have a great example but don’t know if I can use it here. Let’s just say when you use certain things in life as birth control, you are using it for other people. If you are all alone, why would you wear it as it won’t protect you.

I think in the beginning people were freaked out to touch them, but I do it sometimes if we are getting back out of the car in a minute & sometimes if you are just used to it, you just forget. If you drive by someone, you don't know how long they have had it on or will have it on.

I also remember in the beginning people passing out while driving from wearing an N95 for too long in the car and breathing in too much carbon dioxide and causing an accident. I can't breath at all in mine and I get panicky so that bad boy is off the second I'm out of store

Resuming “normal” life
If someone wants to walk around wearing a hazmat suit, they are not doing you any harm, so why does it matter? As for mask wearing, your mask protects other people, so someone choosing to not wear a mask does affect other people. I don't mean when walking by yourself, I don't wear a mask of walking alone but I keep it with me incase someone walks close to me. But if walking outdoors in an area with other people, you should be wearing a mask. All this will soon be moot anyway, as the mask mandate may be lifted this summer.

Covid does not spread outdoors, especially if you are just walking past someone on the street. No need for masks outdoors. Follow the science.

Yep that is what I thought. I thought it took longer than the few seconds it takes to pass someone on the street to contract it. What happened to the 15 min or whatever of exposure?

I only wear one inside a place that is mandatory. I will put it on in the car as it is just easier but rip it off as soon as I get out no matter if there are people around.
I have had people at my home inside and out, been to parties and bbqs inside and out for almost a year so I am not worried of a random person walking by who would have to sneeze or get droplets on me while walking.

But they do follow the science, don’t you know. More like they follow bad information passed along and the fear mongering media.

My son had to play flag football with a mask on this fall, it was rough. Thankfully it was towards the end of the season, and it was chilly so he didn't mind. He didn't even need one for indoor basketball this winter.
ETA - I was at his baseball game the other day and another parent and I were appropriately distanced in the outfield - just the two of us. We unmasked as we were alone and friends. A child under 2 was very interested in my friend and kept on coming over to him and the grandmother asked him if he was vaccinated as she worries about her granddaughter... He is but he's outside, alone basically so he shouldn't have to mask.
Then less than 5 minutes later the granddaughter is running around with young kids who are sniffling and hacking up their lungs so I almost did put my mask on lol - I know it wasn't covid but, I haven't heard kids coughing like that in a year and I didn't want to get sick.

Honestly I don’t mind outside in the cold but now that it is getting warmer and the stores don’t have ac on yet it gets annoying not being able to breathe while shopping. My kid commented this week when it was warm out they could not breathe in school.

I don't say anything bc I'm glad they don't rip it off in relief. However, when they get home and start unpacking and going about their day in the house, then I say something!

Resuming “normal” life
We have seen immediate family since the beginning and our close friends. My daughter has been in school and dance school. We go out to eat indoors, we go to the stores, and we go anywhere that is open.
We wear our dumb masks because we have to in places that we need them but outside walking on the street.. we don't. As soon as my daughter leaves school she rips it off her face. Only my husband is vaccinated because he has a heart problem but i am not nor do i plan to anytime soon.
So no not much has changed except for the mandatory masks and distancing in places that require it.
Live your life anyway you see fit but i will not live in fear.
