Re: Returning to work...please do not move

Uh oh - I think I will break the tie then. I did the city thing for years and one of the reasons I left was because I knew I would have a family some day soon. I didn't want to be out of the house from 7am - until 7pm (the earliest) I was making a TON of money at this job and I felt that my family - and my sanity were more important. The commute honestly got to me after all those years.

Everyone has to make decisions based on their own situation but it does seem like you are not really wanting to take this job. I would keep looking for a little while longer personally. But, that's just me.

Re: Returning to work...please do not move

Last year I would have voted for you to take the job. Today I voted to keep looking, because I have totally been in that situation. It really depends on what is more important to you - career/money v. spending more time with family. I used to think you could have both and I no longer believe that.

This is just a suggestion.

When I assess a situation, I put the pros and cons in columns (side by side) on a piece of paper.

I am VERY thorough and write EVERY pros and cons.

If I had more cons than pros... well...you get the pictures!!!!

Re: Returning to work...please do not move

Is your DH's offer to take a second job realistic for your family? Even in the short-term? How will it effect his ability to spend time with you and your new baby? I think those issues should be added to the pro and con list, too...especially if your financial well-being depends on it.

I feel for you. I recently had a similar situation in that I found a GREAT career opportunity for me - but it's awful in terms of my family and lifestyle. It is over 2 hrs. in commute time one way, so I would hardly ever see my children during the week. I just cannot accept that as "okay" for my life right now and I don't think I could ever get used to it...so, I am not pursuing it any further.

I understand the challenge you are faced with - considering a great opportunity at completely the wrong time. I wish you luck in deciding what is right for your family!!Chat Icon
