Rice cereal in bottle for reflux and a nipple question
My ped recommended adding cereal to the bottle for my little one. I bought the Y nipples (playtex drop in) and it took her almost an hour to eat 4.5oz!
What nipples / bottles do you recommend bc that doesn't sound normal to me!!!

We have the vent aire bottle and i used a wide nipple.

When DS was using the playtex bottles and a slow nipple normally, I just used the medium nipples with the cereal and gradually used the medium during regular feedings too.

I use Dr browns with nipples size 2. I add 1 ounce of Beech Nut Rice cereal to 5 or 6 oz of formula. We do this to help with for acid reflux also.

We use Dr. Brown's bottles and usually do 2 tsp for a 7-8 oz bottle. Level 2 nipples have worked well for us, the Dr. Brown's y-cut were way too fast. We're actually getting ready to try the Level 3 since DD seems to be playing a little more than eating lately and her bottle time has gone up again.

We use Born Free bottles and their Multi-Flow nipples on the Level 1 setting. We've been using these for about 4 months now.

We use Playtex Drop ins too and once we started adding rice cereal to DS' bottles, we switched to the medium flow nipples.
Then, later on we increased the amount of rice cereal (6 tsp. for an 8 oz bottle) we switched to the Fast flow nipples.
The Y-cut never worked for DS. He was drowning in formula.

The first few days when my kids had to use the Playtex y-cut nipples, it was just like your situation. It took them forever to drink the milk. Once they figured out that they are supposed to bite and swallow at the same time, they downed their bottles in 5-10 minutes. The y-nipples from Playtex work fine, it's just a matter of them figuring out how to drink from it. It took both kids a few days to figure it out, but they eventually got the hang of it!
