Rice cereal in bottles
I am starting DD on rice cereal in bottles. But, I forgot to ask the Ped....do I do this in every bottle right away or just one bottle before bed?

Re: Rice cereal in bottles
Unless she has reflux, you really shouldn't put the cereal in the bottle. It has no benefit.
The whole point of it is to try to get DC used to a spoon.

Re: Rice cereal in bottles
I used to put a tbsp in the pm bottle to fill DS up. He slept so much better with full belly!

Re: Rice cereal in bottles
I would start if off in one bottle a day or a couple of days - it may be too much for her.

I agree. It also can be a choking hazard.

Re: Rice cereal in bottles
I was always told that putting cereal in a bottle is pure laziness. I don't think it's laziness at all. I think it's just pointless. IMO a baby should be spoon fed cereal.

THere are definitely extenuating circumstances for using rice in bottles.
Like Diane, I had a baby w/ severe reflux and it allowed him to keep more of his meal in his belly. It worked very well for us.

We are doing the rice cereal b/c DD has a bottle in her mouth literally all day and is always ravenous....especially at 3 am when she always wakes up. We are going to spoon feed her in a few weeks once she gets used to the rice cereal in the bottle.
Anyway...great news!!!!!!!! We gave her the rice cereal in the bottle last night right before bed for the first time and she slept for the FIRST time from 6:30 pm-7am!!!!! A coincidence? I think not. I think our little DD was finally full

Re: Rice cereal in bottles
just be careful she doesnt love having the cereal in the bottle too much that she wont take it from a spoon when you try to transition her.... i agree with everyone else about not putting it in a bottle unless it is for reflux or something though. she needs to get used to eating off a spoon and if you put it in the bottle and get her used to that she wont want the spoon! good luck, glad she gave you some more sleep.

Re: Rice cereal in bottles
we had to put it in Maddy's bottle for relfux and she had no problem when it cam time for solids. I really don't see the harm in a little cereal in the bottle at night. Its not like she's be 16 y.o and still not eating with a spoon

I had to put rice in Jack's bottles bc he was having wayyy too much formula. I had no problem transitioning him to spoonfed cereal!
Glad to see it worked out well and she slept all night!

Absolutley! One of my friends twins had reflusx and it's not fun for the baby or parent. In situations like that cereal will definitely help lots!!!!

Re: Rice cereal in bottles
I started putting rice cereal in DS bottles about 3 weeks ago. At the time he was eating six 8oz bottles per day..He was always hungry and I he couldnt possibly eat any more..He is just growing so fast. At first I was just putting the rice cereal in some of his bottles but I felt that he was getting a bit confused with how hard to suck so I started putting it in all his bottles. He is now getting five 8 oz bottles with rice cereal a day...I will start spoon feeding him as long as he has better head control...
I had to do the same with my eldest daughter..she was simply a hungry baby. My set of twins were slower eaters and slower growers...they never needed it.
