Ring doorbell
Anyone have the ring doorbell? Do you like it? Is it worth getting the more expensive one? It doesn't look like the expensive one has many more features. Tia

Re: Ring doorbell
I'm not sure which one we have, but I love it. I can't imagine not having it now.
Yesterday I was out dropping my ds off at school when someone rang my doorbell (the landscaper to collect money I owed him) and I was able to see him in my phone and tell him I'd be there in 5 minutes.
It's just so cool and convenient. Once you have it, you'll never want to go back.

Ring doorbell
I love it. I was at work yesterday and got a notification that someone was ringing the bell, it was the Fedex guy dropping off packages.

Is it something you pay once for or do you have to get a subscription for monitoring?

There was a recent thread on this. I would go with Arlo, it's free storage of the videos

No, it's not monitored. It's just like having a home security camera- no monitoring

Does it only work if someone rings your doorbell? or can you just randomly check the camera?

Re: Ring doorbell
I have it. I like it, don't love it. It doesn't pick up every movement. For example, it only picks up the mailman 50% of the time and my mailbox is right next to the doorbell.

Both. And if there's movement. You can set up the sensors for that but mine always picks up the garbage men.

Ring doorbell
We have the Ring doorbell - the regular not the Pro. It's FANTASTIC. I have so much more peace of mind now with it.
You can set the motion detector setting to as close to as far from the door as you want.
You can decide if you want notifications for motion sensor, doorbell rings, or both.
Works on your home wifi - so no need to pay for monthly monitoring or anything like that. The videos save up to a cloud so you can download or view them at any time.
If you want to have extra storage - you can pay something like $30 a year for that as the videos don't last forever.
I can hit Live View at any time and see video from the camera live.
You never have to answer your door again to a stranger as the moment they ring the doorbell you get the notification and can see the live feed and hit a button on your screen and talk to them through the two-way microphone. It doesn't matter if you're downstairs or half way across the country.
They also sell video surveillance cameras that work with their Ring app so you can have the doorbell as well as other cameras all accessible in one place.
BEST THING EVER - as I have an elderly MIL who is home alone with my DD a few hours a day and I never have to worry about her opening the door to anyone she doesn't know again.

Yes. You screw it the plate on and then attach the device to the place. If you have a doorbell already in place, you can hard wire the Ring camera to it, which means you never have to charge it, as it will work off the existing door bell wiring.
