Rome, Italy
My Dh really wants to book a trip to Rome, Italy this summer. We are just in the stages of looking into it. Does anyone have any good websites where we can check out some prices? Any good recommendations for hotels (kid friendly)? We will be traveling with our 2 year old so any tips on that would be great. Thanks.

Re: Rome, Italy
DH and I went to Rome, Florence and Venice this passed Spring. Best thing to do is speak with a travel agent first so they could do the majority of the research on hotels and from there you can look up the hotels. My TA gave me a few hotels and from there I checked the hotel websites and of course Tripadvisor.com. That's one of the best websites b/c people give their honest opinions. Hope that helps and FM me if you have any other questions

Re: Rome, Italy
i've never been to Rome, but DH's father is from Italy (the north) and has always said to avoid Rome in the summer, if you can. It's boiling hot and MOBBED with tourists. A better time to go is in the fall or late winter.
if you can only go in the summer, though, just be prepared to pay top dollar for everything as it is tourist season and it will be very very warm.

Re: Rome, Italy
Both times I have been to Rome it was in the summer. First time was in June and it wasn't that horrible, but still HOT. The second time was in July and it was boiling. We were dripping with sweat. It really affected our trip, b/c we were so sluggish from the heat. We found a cheap flight from Germany and DH and I were living there and wanted to go b/c we were leaving Europe in a few weeks. It was worth it, but if you have a choice, don't go when it is so hot.
I don't have any website suggestions, b/c I stayed at a campground (we were poor students). I can say, get something that is near the centre of town. We stayed 45 mins away and the only way was by train. The trains to that area shut down at 10 PM and it really put a damper, b/c we couldn't have a nice night without worrying how we would get home.
The first time I stayed in a pensione by the Spanish steps. Great location!

Re: Rome, Italy
We went in the beginning of June and stayed at Il Piccolo Magnifico. We traveled throughout Italy and the hotel rooms were VERY SMALL in Rome. I dont think a 2 year old would have a space in our tiny room...so that might be something to ask about
I have some good restaurant pics if u want them

Re: Rome, Italy
def check out tripadvisor.com - great resource. We stayed at the Albergo del Senato - our room overlooked the Pantheon - from our balcony we could practically touch it! Highly recommend.
