Rotavirus Vaccine

My older son had rotavirus in February and it was awful. When he was an infant, this vaccine was not available- now with my second son its now given. Did anyone give this vaccine and what are everyone's thoughts on it? I should say I obviously believe in vaccinations, so I wasn't looking for a debate on whether or not to vaccinate...
I am leery because its a new vaccine and my ped gave me the research on it-but Chat Icon

I also had Abby take it. After my friend's DD was hospitalized in January with rotavirus, I did not want to take any chances.

Re: Rotavirus Vaccine

My dd didn't have it because my ped wasn't giving it at the time my dd should've gotten it.

Re: Rotavirus Vaccine

I was hesitating at first with the number of vaccines DS was going to get that it would be "another" one. But since he will be exposed to other children and was going to go to daycare, I did not want to take a chance.

My daughter was hospitalized with it and I wish it would have been available to my other kids, I would have done it without a doubt. It is a nasty virus.

Re: Rotavirus Vaccine

I did not give it because it is so new. And, because it was taken off the shelves not too long ago, then put back on. I'm nervous about that. Chat Icon

ETS: DS does not go to daycare and is hardly ever around other kids. I know, they can get it anywhere, but it just really was a non-issue for me, I had already made up my mind not to give it. My doctor was very supportive.

Re: Rotavirus Vaccine

Ava was hospitalized at 12 months and at 18 months from it. It was horrible. I would absolutely get it for any future baby..

Re: Rotavirus Vaccine

I was sick to my stomach over it, then went ahead and had them give it to him. My neighbor's kid was in the hospital for almost a week with it. They said she was just laying there weak and lifeless.

Re: Rotavirus Vaccine

Its one of those ones I have heard so many kids hospitilized over the actual virus that I choose to do it without hesitation. any risks so far established seem weak in comparision to what teh virus can do to a small child/baby.
