rude comments.

My bestfriend gave birth to a baby boy and he had to stay in the hospital because he was born early but his coming home Thursday .SO we were talking I was being supportive and what not and she turns around and says." your not a mother SO you dont know how it feels to have a baby". I was like just because IM not a mother doesn't mean anything. IM very close to my nephews and been with them from the day they were born. SO I basically told her to shove her rude comments up her Arse.lol

Re: rude comments.

Aww, I'm sorry. Sounds like she is just really extra worried about the baby, along with maybe being a paranoid first time mom. (On of my brothers and SIL were like that with their first.) I'm hoping she didn't really mean it the way it came off -- She's probably worried about the baby and a bit overemotional, too.

In fairness, I don't know what it's like to be a mom. I LOVE my nieces and nephews and have been close with them since they were born... but I do think it's different from being a mom. That said, I don't see what being a mom has to do with being able to be supporting and understanding of her situation and it was definitely rude of her to make that comment. I'm hoping it was just an overemotional momentary lapse in brain power and not really her intending to be mean. Chat Icon

Yeah IM getting tired of it already. She said she is a overprotective mom.lol .Her baby shower is next weekend, and she saying she doesn't want anyone touching or holding the baby. She having one for her friends and she going to leave the baby in the room with her fh.. I've been around babies for years now. The handwashing thing last a few days then its over.lol i know this sounds bad but i been taking care of my young nephew and i didnt wash my hands while i was up at 5 AM TO feed him bottle. i understand the baby was born early but so my nephew and my sister in law let people hold the baby.. my mom is suppose to come with me she sad she might not go because she is driveing everyone crazy! the one thing i hate is over bearing parents. i understand hes new but please dont tell me crazy stuff..lol

But as for the hand washing, and not allowing other people to hold her child, etc, I think it would be a good idea to just let that go. We can't tell anyone what's right or wrong for their child, kwim?

I agree. Also, I can understand why she wouldn't want the baby passed around the shower. Newborns aren't supposed to be out in public much their first few weeks, and I am sure the docs advised her to limit company, too. Hopefully you can make some other time to go see and hold the baby.

Yes she was rude and these things can be handled differently. I happen to come from one of those very liberal with baby familes:
we take them out right away, pass them around like footballs, think germ exposure is a good thing, etc...And I too have been around babies 4ever!
BUT I have many friends that are like yours. It was hard to understand and accept at first but I had to respect their wishes and "crazy" ways if I wanted to remain friends. They don't get my POV, I don't get theirs, but we respect each other about it.

ETA: my big problem is the whole "you're not a mother" thing. That is what I find rude. She can just say, this is how we're doing things with the baby and leave it at that. Just b/c you're not a mom doesn't mean you can't have an opinion on babies and such.

Re: rude comments.

what qualifies her to be a mother? Is it her first?

Just because she gave birth doesn't give her any experience in being a mother.

There are plenty of people who are mothers in one way or another that never gave birth.

Just plain rude. She needs to get a grip.
