I am so so sorry for your loss!  I would be so enraged with my vet if he/she KNEW that there was risk of this disease and did not mention a vaccine. How horrible.

I had every intention of posting this, but every time I sit down to do it, i can't stop myself from crying.
I HATE that vet for not telling us about the vaccine - or even the disease - especially because wte live in an area with a high population of raccoons and squirrels. I want to tell her off. In fact, I'm posting her name here. I highly recommend staying away from Dr Lisa Rini on 25A in Northport/Fort Salonga. Clearly she does not have the best interest of her patients in mind.
He had so much life left in him.  This dog saw me through a very hormonal high school (he would lick my falling tears when i'd close myself in my room and get it all out)...meeting my husband (he always loved him - would curl up at his feet all the time)... through college... at my wedding... and now my pregnancy and the birth of my son (he would snuggle my belly often - almost like he knew there was something in there.). He was so sweet, so loving, so cuddly - really, the perfect dog.
He was so non-chalant with the baby too. In fact, the last time I saw sweet Gizmo, my son was riding his back like a pony (with my assistance, of course.) I wanted my real baby to experience how much fun my furry baby was.
I had a bag packed and plans to visit him as soon as the vet opened yesterday. His favorite snack (carrots - i didn't expect him to eat them, but i know he'd get a lick in at least), a fleece blankie (he loved to be warm), and an ink pad to get his paw prints. He never made it to opening and that bag is still sitting by my front door. 
I HATE that he died alone....probably on a cold table without the kisses he deserved. omg I can't ... my hormones are so out of whack so I'm probably taking this worse than I would have at another time, but omg, I really just can't. I don't even want another dog- I just want him. He was special.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak you must be feeling right now.
I actually started to cry reading your post. I'm so, so, SO sorry.

We didn't know about the Lepto vaccine until the second vet we went to told us about it. It is so important to spread awareness of this vaccine because apparently many vets do not advertise it.

oh Danielle, i am so very sorry. thank you for the PSA, i had no idea there was a vaccine for this either!

OMG I am a weeping mess sitting at my desk reading what you just wrote.
I know how hard it is- it is truly one of the most difficult things we go through in life. I can't imagine how much harder it is for you though- knowing this was preventable if not for the negligence of the vet. I really hope you tell her what happened and maybe she will wake up to what her neglience can cause. Disgusting.
I know nothing any of us can say can make it better... only time will do that.

I'm soooo sorry for you and poor Gizmo. How terribly sad. I am going to ask my vet about this vaccine--at the end of that article it does say that perhaps there is more harm in giving the vaccine than in not giving it. I guess it depends on what is considered urban. Either way, glad to know about it and will be sure to ask my vet about it. I'm calling on Monday!

Thank you for sharing this information. Lepto is controversial with small breeds but per out vet, we get it anyway. Denver is allergic so he gets Bendaryl from the doctor first. If you have a toy breed, make sure you talk to your vet.

I am so, so sorry for your loss.
Thank you for informing everyone about Lepto. My friends lost their dog to this disease/virus a couple years ago and I have been a staunch supporter of the vaccine ever since.

my breeder told me not to get that vaccine but my vet did! i am glad i lsitened to my vet!

Why is the shot controversial? I am glad I did not know that, I might have said no to it, but I just did what my vet told me and get it for my dogs each year.
