Great news but now our Armed Forces are really going to be feeling the heat - I have a feeling all hell is going to break loose. Of course I am glad he was executed, but the troops need our support now more than ever I think.

Please reconsider this thought. Regardless of what you feel about President Bush, I have never heard anyone compare him to a Tyrannical Dictator who for more than 30 years ran a country of state-sanctioned TERROR, MURDER AND RAPE.
If I felt the current leader of my country were anything like Hussein, I sure as hell wouldn't be living in this country any longer.
ETA: Just by virtue of your post, the two are obviously not comparable. If you were an Iraqi during Hussein's reign and so much as thought this way about your leader, you, your family AND YOUR ENTIRE TOWN would be executed (precisely the crimes he was just found guilty of and hanged for)

agreed. i may not agree with everything Bush does but he most certainly should not be compared to "the butcher of baghdad"!
God is saddam's judge now. i hope he gets what he deserves!

No offense but its my opinion. Bush is too egotistical to realize that he was wrong to start the war and what's worse is he refuses to pull troops out. Too many men and women are dying fighting for another country's freedom when our country has many problems of its own. I just thank god that there are term limits in our government so that it doesnt turn into 30 years like with Hussein.
Its just a horrible situation all around and my comment was only to point out that what Saddam deserved to die for, might also be something we have here in our own country.

good onya for having the guts to say that. although the way i read it is she doesnt REALLY mean exactly that, but is rather stating that they have both killed lots of people. i see this statement as an extreme statement, but i understand what she is implying. JMO.

Well I'm glad that the people of Iraq will no longer have to worry about him, nor will anymore people suffer at his hand. He was truly a disturbed individual who imo was a hatefull, evil individual with no regard for human life.
With that said, no matter who it is, I always have a sick feeling when someone is executed. I'm just not sure how I feel about it and sometimes think the real justice would be allowing the person to rot in jail for the rest of their days. I"m not sure I'm a supporter of the eye for an eye theory.

I understood/stand the inference of the statement and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I was trying to bring to light some very glaring dissimilarities between the two - the fact that she can say this and not have worry of police knocking at her door and taking her and her family to their deaths for it being first and foremost. There is also a vast difference between entering an "unjust war" and ordering the murder of the majority group because they do not agree with you and pose a threat to your own tyrannical unjust power.

I hesitated in posting that because I don't want anyone to think I thought this nut should have gone free. He absolutely should have faced serious consquences for his past actions and I don't think he should have ever had any further contact with the outside world. I just get a sick feeling because who are we; and by we I refer to law makers, government, etc., to determine when a life should end and lable it as justice. IMO justice is spending the remainder of your life dealing w/the consequence and quite possibly dealing with further consequences of your actions long after you depart this world.

i feel this way as well. it is great he is dead, but on the other hand i think, have we as humans, just killed another human. so that leaves a sick feeling in my stomach. but that is a whole other topic.

I do agree with you. I was just saying to DH that even though it's Saddam Hussein, I have trouble cheering for his death.
I think part of what I'm feeling is that Saddam is just a piece of all the cr@p that is going on in our world right now.

yeah. i dont know. sometimes i wonder about how democratic our society really is. i heard an interesting thing on NPR a few weeks ago, about how right is that democracy is spread and if all these countries really want that.
i am off topic, but i respect your opinion and i am now leaving this thread, b/c political threads dont get on well with me.
