Re: Saddest moment of your life
OMG all these posts are making me cry.
I have to say that at this point in my life the saddest moment was when my exs father passed. We had just called off the wedding and a week later he was dianosed with oatcell cancer (this is a type of cancer that produces very quickly, the person is given only weeks) so anyway, i never really had a real relationship with my father and Mr.X was like a second father to me. So we stayed in his room for 3 days straight and it was so sad. we finally went home to rest and get cleaned up and got the call only moments after arriving back at ex's house that his system was shutting down and it was only a matter of minutes. we didn't make it back to the hospital in time and he was already gone. Luckily earlier that day we all said our goodbyes.

Re: Saddest moment of your life
Mine was the day mom passed away. She went in for elective surgury, had complications and spent the next 11 months fighting a battle which she ended up losing in the end. What makes it even harder to accept is that she dies mostly due to inept care from the hospital.

Re: Saddest moment of your life
My saddest moment of my life was not when anyone died, it was when I wanted to end my own life. I had just had major fallings out with most of my close friends (because of an incident with one friend) so I was hardly talking to any of them, I had just gotten my new car 8 days before and I got hit (someone ran a red light). I was on the over pass of the expressway and while I waited for the police on the side of the service road, it took every ounce of control not to jump off the bridge of the overpass. I can still remember wanting to go away and die.

Re: Saddest moment of your life
I'm lucky that we haven't had too much tragedy in my family... yet... but the saddest moments in my life were 3 - when my mother called me while I was in college to tell me that the lump in her breast turned out to be a very aggressive form of cancer. I passed out on the phone The next was when my father called to tell me that he went into kidney failure and would have to be on dialysis for the rest of his life, until he gets a transplant. It hit me for the first time in my life that the person I most look up to and who was always my rock was just as fragile as everyone else in this world. We're still waiting for his approval to get onto the transplant list and the prospects are grim considering that the doctors told him he has only another year in which he'll survive on dialysis And the third is when I miscarried. I was only 6 weeks along, but it was devastating nonetheless...

Re: Saddest moment of your life
First of all to everyone some of these stories are soo heartbreaking that i dont know how i would survive some of the expereiences.
I wouls say, in no particular order:
1) when my dh mom( boyfriend at the time )died. to see my dh break down and cry somone who was always so strong and there for me .. to see his grandma loose a child was devastating. She was ponly 52
2) 9/11 althoughi luckily didnt loose anyone directly it was a very scary day
3) My two miscarriages.
4) Seeing the man my mom loved for 10 years walk out of her life for his ex wife. He was like a second dad to me and although i think he is a jerk for what he did i thank god he was a part of my life b/c although my dad was a part of ,my life and still is i dont have the same relationship wiith him as i did with my mom boyfriend.

Re: Saddest moment of your life
I am so truly saddened by so many stories everyone here has shared, I am in tears as I have read each and every story you have all shared.
My saddest moment was holding my 26 day old son for the one and only time having just decided to turn off his ventilators. Watching my DH hold him as he took his last breath before he died is not classified in my book as the saddest moment, to me it was the worst heartbreaking defining moment in my life.
Second was losing my Father and maternal grandmother

When I found out my Nanny passed away.
But honestly, I can't decide which is sadder, her passing or finding out she only had a certain amount of time and that her cancer was not going to be cured . . . .

Re: Saddest moment of your life
omg doodles...im hysterical rite now... in fact, this whole thread has me in tears!!!
i have a few sad moments: 1. when my grandmother passed away...she had stomach cancer, was only given 6 mos. to live, and ended up pushing it to a year and a half...the day she died was the saddest day...it was so hard for me and i was goin to visit her in the hospital that day (she never wanted me to go visit her in the hospital).
2. the day i found out my high school latin teacher passed away...she had been diagnosed w/breast cancer, 6 years prior, it came back while i had her, then she had liver cancer..SHE was only given 3 mos. to live, but ended up surving 3 years-she was a medial marvel-she was the sweetset, kindest person-and called us all "her kids" since she never had any. her brothers speech at her funeral was the most saddest one ive ever heard, even FH was crying!!!
3. 9/11-not only the whole day, itself, but since we couldnt walk over the bridge to go home b4 they opened them, we stopped at somoenes apt-and realized teh FULL effect of what had just happened. ppl were lined up to go on tv to tell their loved ones they were okay-i lost it and i just remember crying for the 2 horus i was there.

Re: Saddest moment of your life
Finding out my grandmother had died when I was 9. When I was 23 my mothers mom passed away, I'll never forget my mom walking into my room crying and telling me she has passed I looked at her like why would you say that? Then seeing my dad walk in crying I realized it was true and I grabbed my mom and I fainted in her arms

Re: Saddest moment of your life
The utmost worst moment and day of my life was when I went into pre term labor and had to deliver my daughter Noelle who was stillborn....
Not knowing if she would live or die yet trying to deliver her was torture.

Watching my SIL trying to give birth to her son. We already knew he was unlikely to survive the delivery because of a heart condition, but she was hoping for a miracle so that she would be able to hold him even if it was just for a minute. After hours & hours of labor, they started to tell her she could rest for 10 minutes. I had gone out in the hall during her break. The doctor came out & said "Are you ok?" I broke down crying and said "You know if there's any chance Nicholas is still alive, if you tell her, she'll push him out with all of her might. But since you're giving her so much time to rest, I think he's gone and she's not pushing all the way because she's afraid of what she's going to find out." Then the doctor who had been with us all night started crying too. She said "Ok, we'll check her." They brought in 2 doctors to do the fetal echocardiogram.
To this day, I can hear her wails in my head when I think about this.
Second place would be 10 minutes after her c-section. I was asked to photograph him for her since she & her husband were never going to see him again. My BIL held him. I could barely see through the viewfinder through the tears.
This is heartbreaking

Re: Saddest moment of your life
To All of you.....
I have had many sad moments in my life (too many to count) but 2 that stand out would have to be:
1: Watching my former fiance's health deteriorate to the point of him being in a vegetive state. This after spending a year and a half of caring for him - lifting him in and out of his wheelchair, dressing & undressing, changing medical dressings, feeding him through a feeding tube & caring for a catheter. He spent the last 8 months of his life in and out of the hospital with only 8 days at home before he passed away just minutes after we left his hospital room. A nurse came and got me in the parking lot. He is at peace now & not suffering anymore which is the only thing that eases the pain a little.
2: After I had a mini-stroke I was at home but going to rehabilitation everyday. My 15 year old daughter who I lived with & was helping me do everything including putting my shoes & socks on & cutting my food up looked at me and said "I want my old mommy back" I told her so do I that was why I was working so hard in rehab.

I have been extremely fortunate not to have too many terribly sad moments in my life. I think one of my saddest days was when my grandmother was in hospice, dying of cancer last summer. She was 99 and to that point, had always been totally mentally sharp. She was under a lot of pain medication and wasn't lucid, which totally scared me. Then in a moment of lucidity, she knew I was there, and told me to take care of Brad. I knew that would be the last time I ever saw her.

Re: Saddest moment of your life
I can't even begin to tell all of you how heartbreaking your stories are and how much respect I have for you. You are all such strong women and have been through some of the most horrifying things. I don't think sending hugs is even enough. I have been so lucky that I haven't had any serious tragedies in my life. And any saddest moment I have had pale in comparison to what you have been through. Much love to all of you ladies.
