Saturday's Dumb Question from a Stranger

So DH and I go out to eat tonight... never know when the last night of freedom will beChat Icon

I waddle in and a woman in her 60's or 70's is by the door and she says...

Woman: "Woah, any day now, huh?" (The word "Woah" makes a preggo feel oh so sexy...lol)

Me: "Ummmm... a bit more to go. There are twins in there." (Thinking...Oh, where is the darn hostess?)

Woman: "Are they FRATERNAL or PATERNAL?"

W-T-H??????????Chat Icon Chat Icon

Me: "Do you mean FRATERNAL or IDENTICAL?"
"They are boy/girl so they are DEFINETLY FRATERNAL?" (I wasn't about to get into what we learned on the Nat. Geo Special about B/G identicalsChat Icon I wasn't dealing with the sharpest tool in the shed)

Woman: "No, I mean FRATERNAL or PATERNAL? Oh, I guess you'll have to see their faces in order to tell."

OMGChat Icon Chat Icon PATERNAL?????? THEIR FACES????
I should have said, "No, only one has a father... The other I made with my lesbian lover"Chat Icon Oh, and this guy I'm with (pointing to DH) I just met him in the parking lot.Chat Icon

If she is an American of average intelligence, then hand me my Fulbright scholarship now so I can get that Nobel Prize and solve world peace and the cure for cancer Chat Icon Chat Icon

Note to self... next time pick a swankier establishmentChat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I can't tell you the number of people that used to ask me if my twin & I were identical.

I have brown hair, hazel eyes; she has blond hair & blue eyes. They don't get the word "identical" means identical.

Re: Saturday's Dumb Question from a Stranger

Last night I told DH that we have "turned the corner" so to speak and now it will be nothing but pseudo-celebrity status as if we are a freak show. I know the twin mommies know what I'm talking about.

We went to services yesterday morning (it's been quite a while). I was so Chat Icon from not sleeping all that well. About 10 strangers approached me and wanted to "talk". I don't know you and I've had four hours of sleepChat Icon Chat Icon BUG OFF!!Chat Icon I'm starting to regret going out in public.

I know, I know.... wait until they get hereChat Icon That double stroller brings more excitement to a room than a celebrity sighting. Everyone wants to talk to us. The thing they don't realize is we have absolutely NO TIME to talk because we have two.

Oh the good side, can you imagine the book I can write someday?Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Saturday's Dumb Question from a Stranger

My SIL has twins, my BF has twins, other friends have twins... and honestly it is not a "show". I really don't think people are so impressed - esp. with so many women going through fertility treatments these days, twins are fairly common.

the double stroller is definitely a magnet for onlookers. DH and I went to the diner and people in the back of the restaurant left their table to come and see the girls. Should I be flatter, no I just wanted to order my food. When I am with other twin mommies, the response we get it so funny. and people think they are allowed to say anything on their mind.

that is the thing you would think that, but no. People say the most rude, weird and also nice things. I don't know if it is the stroller or what. I love my twins, and I could not imagine life with just one of them. But it is just truly interesting how people, will ask "can I take a peek?"

I am sure they do. But I see them alot when I am out, maybe I am used to seeing Twins. I also know 5 couples who have them. All natural twins too, no fertility treatments.

Re: Saturday's Dumb Question from a Stranger

Ooh I had to add, my friends with same sex twins say they get the twins comments/questions for years, while they boy/girls parents only get them till they are like 1 or so.

Re: Saturday's Dumb Question from a Stranger

As "common" as twins are these days, it's still attracts attention - and, I have to say, mostly good-intentioned attention. It's the funny stories that keep it really interestingChat Icon

Not impressed? Chat Icon You should see the looks we get - they're especially impressed with how well we handle them and how good the girls are! I've never known anyone (my age) to have twins, so for me its uncommon so maybe that's why I notice everyone being so impressed with our girls! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Natural meaning NO fertility treatment. Natural as in you ovulated 2 eggs, or 1 and it split..... without meds. That is what I mean when I say natural.Chat Icon
