The only one I would ever use is the vodka sauce (I cant remember the brand but it has a shiny gold label) because I cant make it myself.

ETA: It's Victoria brand. Chat Icon

follow ajsmommy's recipe and u'll never go back to jarred vodka sauce ever again.

Has anyone else NEVER made tomato sauce in their lives?? Chat Icon

Me me! I don't think I ever will. I am perfectly happy with Rinaldi's for $1 a jar! My MIL makes her own, and sometimes it is great, but other times I find it way too garlicy. It varies every time. Rinaldi's is always the same!

I'm sure I never will either! I have to work on learning to make traditional Jewish foods before I venture into the world of homemade sauce!

me either. what are we missing!??! Chat Icon

The only jar I'll use is Rao's Marinara Sauce...it's pricey, almost $8 a jar but so good.

I was brought up on homemade "gravy" aka sauce so I cant bring myself to buy jar sauce.

its so funny, the guy I am dating was up at my dads house in Ct. for a party and my dad had made homemade sauce. He was joking around (half joking b/c cause he does use jar sauce) and asked my dad what jar of sauce this was because it was delicious. But he said it loud enough so everyone at the party could hear.. all of the sudden everyone looked at him like he was crazy..and my sister said, in a funny sarcastic tone, we dont eat jar sauce... It was so funny!!!

I taught him how to make a quick marinara sauce with italian canned otmatoes so now he doesnt use jar sauce anymore.

If anyone is looking to try something new..... trust me when I say to get Emril's "Kicked Up Tomato".

It doesn't taste anything like jarred sauce. Its a little spicy though... but its not too bad. Chat Icon

Its about $4 a jar which isn't too badly priced either.

Sounds like it is worth trying. Jarred sauce is just about a sin in my family, but I have used Preggo 3 cheese and trader Joe's sauce s and they are decent.

I've never eaten jar sauce; I find fresh sauce so easy & comforting to make. Maybe it's all those years waking up on Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. to the smell of garlic and onions.

We make & freeze tons of sauce so we can eat it anytime.

ditto my grammy would cut my arms off if we used jar sauce

Re: Sauce in a jar

The only jar sauce I ever use is the Alfredo sauce from Patsy's. As good as I am at sauce, I can never get the consistency right for Alfredo sauce. And I love the way Patsy's does it.

We used to use Prego tomato, onion & garlic. Now we get the Tuttorosso (jar sauce) and it is so yummy!
