Savings Bonds
I got a bond in the mail for $100, now I'm trying to figure out - does that $100 double when it matures (to $200) or is the $100 what it will be worth when it matures?

Re: Savings Bonds
I totally think I am right but If I am wrong I apologize....if its a 100 dollars...the buyer bought it for 50 and it will mature to 100. I believe it matures after 7 yrs. not positive.

Re: Savings Bonds
Its total upon maturation is 100 dollars. (The buyer pays the smaller half)

Re: Savings Bonds
my DH found one of his from 1974 (birth gift) and just cashed it in over 30 years later
it was a 50 bond (paid 25) and with its maturity he got over 120 for it!
but in general it costs half of the face value and worth the face value when matures.

I believe after the 7 some odd years it increases with interest and that is why he got more money then expected.

Re: Savings Bonds
it depends on what series bond it is. for example, an EE bond (most common) the buyer pays $25 for a $50 bond, when the bond is matured it is worth the full $50. if you have an I bond you pay $50 for a $50 bond and the bond starts to gain interest the day it's bought. i buy everyone I bonds
