SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
I'm sure there is more to the story then what's seen here but even then, I was still surprised by the way he grabbed the kid.

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
Ok I know Its just a lil clip and I dont know how many times the cop has showed up to this house but the kid is drunk and already handcuffed and I don't care if was cursing at the cop I dont think the cop had a right to grab him by the throat like that!

SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
he is doing the kid a favor by not arresting him and the kid wasn't getting that. to me no biggie. i had a teacher flip a desk on me and scream at me in front of everyone i didn't cry boo about it because i deserved it for being a little shit.

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
For all we know the kid spit in the cops face or did something else before this small piece of the clip was taken. Maybe this guy was being detained for choking his girlfriend....here's a taste of your own medicine.... It would be interesting to have the whole thing on video before I could pass judgement.

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
Ok .. So I've seen this on facebook...
And I do have to say , that NO ONE knows the back story to this AT ALL .. That camera goes on conveniently when the cop is already mid sentence and god only knows what happened before this to anger him...
NONE of us know.
I should this to my FH and he said that we donn't know what happened right before this that angered him, it could have been anything..He was handcuffed so obviously there was a reason he was handcuffed ie; he probably was fighting with the cops and they were forced to restrain him .
People are sooooo quick to assume that a Police Officer is using excessive force or doing something that they aren't supposed to ...
This infuriates me !!!

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
And then there are people who say "I wish the cop would've given him a beat down."
I don't fault the cop at all.

Great, a video that takes something out of context and makes police officers look bad. Awesome.

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
Since I personally know this cop, I just want to say that he's not a douchebagg chip on his shoulder tough guy cop. He's really mild mannered when not in uniform. But being a cop is no joke, and I forgot where cops are trained to be namby pambys asking people how their day was? And knowing what precinct he works in. I'd say he has fair share of trash to deal with.
So once again, a tiny snippet meant to portray law enforcement as the bad guy and this piece of trash as the victim is entirely misguided and inflammatory.

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
Cops risk their lives every single day so that WE can be safe, I could NEVER be a cop it is a very hard and I am certain SCARY job, they MUST assert their authority.
I was raised to smile and wave at police officers and if they EVER approached me whether it be pulled over in a car or on the street to treat them with the utmost respect.
IMO if you talk back to a cop you are an assholee, they are the authority show them some respect.

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
I didn't see anyone crying excessive force on this thread?
I said I was surprised at how he grabbed him.
Also I know plenty of cops that are douchebags & plenty that are sweethearts. It doesn't mean they are that way on the job. No one knows what it's like to put on a uniform & deal with what they deal with every day. Just like the teacher - there is always a backstory.

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
I was surprised only bc it happened so fast. The guy looks like a POS and while we dont know why the cop did this, im sure it wasnt bc the guy asked him how his day was going. I think especially cops who works in rough neighborhoods have tougher skin than most can imagine, so I dont fault him, i just wish his partner maybe stepped in sooner when he saw it escalating, but who knows the partner was probably dealing with other trash himself.

SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
I don't understand? He was handcuffed so there was no need for that in my opinion. It looks like he did it to make the point he *could* beat the sh*t out of him. I will always side with PD, but I would like to know the back story.

Re: SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
Regardless of what happened before this clip, the guy was handcuffed. A cop should never ever choke someone unless their life is in danger...they are TRAINED to handle these situations and they are paid to keep their cal m in the situations that normal citizens wouldn't know how to.
Does he deserve respect? yes. Is it possible he lost his cool after being disrespected? of course...but the guy posed no threat to this officer so his hands should not have been on him in a physical manner other than to detain him.
I hope the cop doesn't lose his job over this...but to say it's ok for cops to put their hands on people in a violent manner if they feel disrespected or bc the person they are dealing with is an asshole is unacceptable

Just to clarify, I never said he was in the right for acting this way. I just wanted to give a little insight. And the guy is hardly a kid IMO.

WTH is this a keg party? Im sorry but that IS excessive force and I do think his job is in trouble. Control yourself! Obviously if he ISN'T taking the guy to jail he did not do anything so horrible

I could not agree more. The guy was detained, there was absolutely no reason to grab him in such a way and if it happened to any one of you, I'm sure you'd be crying foul.
Personally, I hold cops to a higher standard than any normal person when it comes to shwoing restraint. I understand the pressures that can come with the job, but that's what they signed up for.

I was thinking the same thing. If he did something so terrible he wouldn't be saying "next time I come back here". He would be taking his ass out now.
So I don't get that.

SCPD Cop getting a little out of hand
dont be so quick to judge this cop. we have no idea what kind of people they have to deal with on a daily basis to keep us safe. who knows what the guy did or what he said to him. IMO unless anyone is in a cop's shoes, you do not have a right do judge how they deal with public and our safety.

Great, a video that takes something out of context and makes police officers look bad. Awesome.
Makes me think of the teacher video. Both don't take the whole context and both led to people on this site bashing the professional.
