Second wave?
Some of my coworkers say they are, without question, expecting a lockdown again like we had in March. Do you think that will happen again? The numbers are rising and its making me nervous.

Second wave?
As much as I don't want that to happen, I think it will. I just don't want to live as if we're "on hold".

Second wave?
This is the THIRD surge for the US and I would consider it the second wave for NYS. I would expect restrictions to be implemented soon if we do not get this under control.
With that said, I hope schools are considered essential and remain open. That is what Europe is doing for now.
People need to stop getting together with others and not wearing masks. Meet up outside and wear a mask. No indoor gatherings. My brother and SIL are getting together regularly with tons of people. No masks. Their DS now has a 103 fever and a sore throat.

Second wave?
I am patiently waiting here in NJ. Number of cases and hospitalizations are up. We were out to eat over the weekend and heard another customer saying to the owner that they thought dining wasn't allowed and owner responded "not yet". My co-worker who lives in Northern NJ said she has been hearing similar things from local shops by her. I noticed the food bars at the local grocery store has been closed up again (were open just a week ago) and products at some of the stores have been sold out. I think people are preparing themselves.

Re: Second wave?
My hope is we use the info learned over the last few months to dial back instead of 100% lockdown. This is happening now in Europe.
For example, close large gatherings and gyms and indoor dining but allow places that can operate with various protocols to stay open. Also take a targeted local approach by zip/county, not a blanket shutdown.
People need to wear masks and use caution. We can’t just let this continue to spread and take over the country. If people would be responsible and follow rules of phased approach, we should be able to avoid a complete and total lockdown which is hopefully the last resort.

All this. I was relieved to read that most of Europe's current lockdowns don't apply to schools. However, the requirements if you're in an orange or red zone or whatever may not be doable. I think it requires everyone being tested and then random 25% tested on a weekly basis. If we don't have the capacity to meet that they'll likely shut down too.
What's frustrating is that the people who will be most upset about a shutdown are the ones doing the most traveling and socializing which will be what causes it.

People are being hospitalized and dying. I know you like to believe that this is fake news, but it is very much REAL. Maybe you don't know people who have died of this, but I do. It is REAL. My 38 year old - otherwise healthy - friend died. People continue to be hospitalized and die regardless of what you choose to believe.

I have know people who had it, who were hospitalized and who died. I also know people who got false positive results and messed up results. Not wrong to question at all as some people just take things they are told and never question it. That is why we have some people who have never left their homes as they are scared to death from what the media is telling them.

We need to control the troll. Not worth engaging.
I agree with everything you said. Science isn’t based on personal anecdotes.
Sorry about the loss of your friend. Some people are incapable of having empathy for others. At least our new leadership is taking this seriously.

Yes my friend's cousin just died last week from Covid. He was in the hospital and then started to have multi organ failure. He was early 40s and no underlying conditions. It all happened very quickly as well he was sick for just about over a week. So yes it is still happening.

Re: Second wave?
I personally know two families that had Covid-19. One family was this past month. Luckily, the wife and son were asymptomatic, but he was hit hard. He never stops for anything, but this took him out. He was in bed for a few weeks, and even a month after he was negative, he's still feeling the effects. Mild exertion and he's exhausted. He's not someone that would exaggerate something like this. He would downplay it if anything, so if he says it was really bad, I believe it.
He wasn't "hospitalized", but bed-ridden for almost a month is pretty close.

Second wave?
I know quite a few people that have gotten it recently and it was because they do not follow the current rules in place. They are all socializing without masks, going to parties, etc.
I really hope they do not do a sweep shut down of schools. They really should be looking at if Covid is getting transmitted that way and if the schools are following the guidelines. While in my district, we have had a few Covid cases, probably about 15 since the beginning of September, none were transmitted through school contact. All were from outside contact. I would be pissed if they shut down schools. The kids need to be taught in school.

Second wave?
My family had Covid back in March/April (with the exception of my 20 yo). I was asymptomatic, but my dh and ds were sick. Ds bounced back pretty quickly, but dh was sick for several weeks.
I also have a coworker who lost a parent and two grandparents from it.

I know of a few people like that last December. Still think they had it then.

Second wave?
the numbers are rising again. Hospitals are preparing. Hopefully, we can get it under control faster this time. I think we are better prepared to deal with it this time around. I do think another (at least) partial shutdown will happen. The problem with trying to control certain zip codes/areas-- if they are shut down, they are going to do their business in other neighborhoods and it will spread that way.

In NJ they are going to close bar areas in restaurants, as well as reduce the number of occupancy for indoor dining. My DH was out yesterday and the manager said it will be next week or after Thursday. I forgot what my DH told me.
These poor businesses. This is what annoys me because I feel like the spikes aren’t from restaurants and schools. But let’s keep punishing the entire state and small businesses.

I didn't realize they were limiting # again inside dining. We made sure to eat out this weekend because we weren't sure what Murphy was going to announce.
I feel bad for these small businesses.

Re: Second wave?
Unfortunately a 2nd wave is inevitable. There is no cure. You can't eradicated a virus without a vaccine, so we have to assume a 2nd wave is coming. I do believe there will be closures, but not as severe as March. I can’t see that happening right before the holidays. The market would tank. However, I do believe come January there will be another shut down like we saw in March. In the meantime, I keep hearing schools plan on shutting down after Thanksgiving and not going back until Jan. … NO!!!!!!!!!
