Unfortunately a 2nd wave is inevitable. There is no cure. You can't eradicated a virus without a vaccine, so we have to assume a 2nd wave is coming. I do believe there will be closures, but not as severe as March. I can’t see that happening right before the holidays. The market would tank. However, I do believe come January there will be another shut down like we saw in March. In the meantime, I keep hearing schools plan on shutting down after Thanksgiving and not going back until Jan. … NO!!!!!!!!!
Funny that you say that, I just heard the same thing. Unnecessary since the school numbers have been low.

My friend's mom is on the Covid Task Force for her school district and said it was mentioned at a meeting the other day. I work in a school and PRAY that does not happen for the sake of my students and my own first grader, who has been making so much progress.

Second wave?
Of course there will be. Look back at the thread about Thanksgiving...people openly said they just don’t care and will be getting together anyway.

I am patiently waiting here in NJ. Number of cases and hospitalizations are up. We were out to eat over the weekend and heard another customer saying to the owner that they thought dining wasn't allowed and owner responded "not yet". My co-worker who lives in Northern NJ said she has been hearing similar things from local shops by her. I noticed the food bars at the local grocery store has been closed up again (were open just a week ago) and products at some of the stores have been sold out. I think people are preparing themselves.
In NJ they are going to close bar areas in restaurants, as well as reduce the number of occupancy for indoor dining. My DH was out yesterday and the manager said it will be next week or after Thursday. I forgot what my DH told me.
These poor businesses. This is what annoys me because I feel like the spikes aren’t from restaurants and schools. But let’s keep punishing the entire state and small businesses.
The infections and spikes are coming from private events and gatherings.
Even if they put another round of shutdowns in place, I don't believe people will stop getting together privately to the extent they did back in March. I know that in my town, people are DONE. So it's all going to be for nothing except to put the final nail in the coffins of many small businesses.

I didn't realize they were limiting # again inside dining. We made sure to eat out this weekend because we weren't sure what Murphy was going to announce.
I feel bad for these small businesses.
I had no clue as well. I feel so bad for them, they were already struggling with the limited capacity and it will get cold soon. No one is going to want to eat outside.

It's those who refuse to accept reality or suboordinate their convenience or desires to helping the greater good that will be the cause of the shutdown. Study after study has shown that following simple guidelines and wearing masks would have put us in a very different spot than we are in now.
But all some people want to do is undermine and question reality---not because they possess any special knowledge, training, or skills, but because they don't like what is and think they can lash out at reality by "questioning everything" or "doing their own research."
That is why, if we are locked down, we will be locked down. It didn't have to be this bad.

Second wave?
Just like other PPs have said, I really worry for the small business owners, some have already been shutdown from one day to another and with not explanation. I seriously don’t think our economy will be able to handle a second shutdown.

People will only take this seriously if they or a loved one is negatively affected.
If people continue to have small gatherings and it starts to spread within their group, I hope they will begin to take precautions.
I honestly can't believe how selfish people are. You can still get together outdoors with masks on. It's not like health officials are saying you can never see people again.

Second wave?
Heres the thing Covid is not going anywhere...ever. Vaccine or not, its now gonna be apart of our lives. So with that said its time to adapt and move on. Shutting down and reopening and shutting down and do it over and over again does nothing good for the economy. In my school there have been two cases already in the kindergarten classes, both mild. Eventually everyone will most likely get it in the long run.

Adapting means wearing masks to protect others as well as ourselves, to maintain some social distance and to limit large gatherings inside. If people would just adapt insteadof fighting masks, then we wouldn't need to worry about shut downs.

We need a good treatment/therapeutic and rapid ACCURATE testing. Things will be better when that occurs.

I agree with limiting large gatherings, however the mask thing is up for debate. Two thin pieces of cotton can do so much. Eventually everyone will get some version of Covid no matter what you wear on your face.

I know several people who have had Covid TWICE in a few month span. So how will a vaccine work if you can get it more than once? Just curious.

This exactly- 1/2 my family lives in PA- where numbers were rising and they hosted a large family dinner a few weeks ago, we declined the invite because of the rising cases in the area. We were told we're being silly because "we're all family & friends!" and I said "you can feel how you want, we feel it's best not to come" I have no idea where they go day to day, what the do, their kids are in school full time, they are all working out of the house, etc. etc. I am dying to see my cousins/aunts & uncles, but I also need to be safe

Our super just sent an email to say that is just a false rumor and they have no intentions of doing that at this time. The infection rate in our area is low and there is no need for that at this time. Ever single case reported in our district was traced back to a gathering OUTSIDE of school. A Sweet 16, a party in a house, etc. But yeah...Rumors... spread through social media and mom groups no doubt....

Correct. Case in point. My Father in Law. 87 years old. Tested postive in a nursing home in April. Had mild symptoms. Complained of a cold. Tested negatvie several times- because he had to test negative to go back to his old unit from the COVID unit. Then had to test negative again to be moved to a new nursing home we got in him into. A few weeks ago they called us- he's positive again. Again he's fine. But this doesn't bode well for this wonderful vaccine that will save the world.
I also have a co worker in NC- same thing. Tested negative. A few months later- got it again.
And a friend of my cousin upstate NY.

I know quite a few people that have gotten it recently and it was because they do not follow the current rules in place. They are all socializing without masks, going to parties, etc.
I really hope they do not do a sweep shut down of schools. They really should be looking at if Covid is getting transmitted that way and if the schools are following the guidelines. While in my district, we have had a few Covid cases, probably about 15 since the beginning of September, none were transmitted through school contact. All were from outside contact. I would be pissed if they shut down schools. The kids need to be taught in school.
Exactly. Supposedly schools will go to remote if the weekly average is 5%. I really hope we don’t be there. Any of the 3 cases in my district were contracted outside of school. I mean do you want to be that parent who got your kid’s school shut down because you just had to have that party?

Yep. This is NOT being transmitted by in person school. That much is pretty clear from what we have seen so far.
